In a quandary

...Lancia Scorpion!

Julian, if you go by that shop, please take a good look at the TR4 and let me know what he wants for it. If the car is a solid runner then I have a buyer who will come down with cash. (not me!)

For a tick there I thought you wuz goin' over to the Other Side, Steve! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:]I just don't have all the MGs I want yet.[/QUOTE]

Me either!

Yeah but you have nine of each of what you do have! Liquidate and expand, says I! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Julian,

Harold looks good online - I was half tempted to check him out as a possible replacement for my wrecked BGT but I haven't gotten a report back from the LBC body shop I sent pics to and I haven't settled up with insurance yet and I still have a parking problem....

I love the line "a sheep in wolf's clothing!" It fits the B to a T!

I hope he goes to a great home!

Adam

P.S. I think you decided against a coupe but there's a guy in our club who's been talking about selling his P1800. I'm thinking it's a good car.

Thanks, Adam /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif The bidding has stopped for the moment, perhaps it will pick up again.

Steve: I went by the shop, and looked at what he has, including the TR4, and the TR6 I'm interested in (I'm going over to the Triumph forum to ask for some wisdom there in a moment). I don't think your friend wants this TR4. It looks like it's been in a fire or something, and is completely trashed. There isn't one good body panel I could see. Rust everywhere. However, apparently it does turn over. Here's a couple of pics I took:

He also has a nice Sprite:

which is about the nicest car there.

Well, Harold didn't sell. It looks like he wants to stay here a little longer! The bidding went up to $2130, with 60 people watching. I adjusted the Reserve to $3000 a few days ago, which seems like a fair price.

I confess I'm a little disappointed and puzzled ... perhaps Ebay is not the right forum in which to sell these cars?

On the other hand, it may just be that the GTs are nowhere near as desirable as the roadsters?

WHEEU Steve,.... thats a relief to hear.....I have been doing a little bit of Ebay lately, and I was sure it was my personality.....

Julian,

I have always thought that eBay, as good as it is, does very little to maintain or increase classic car values and tends to support 'bargain basement' prices.

Cars tend to sell far below market values and parts tend to be a bit pricy...go figure /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

According to The Gold Book values your car should easily sell for over $3,000 even if it is in 'Fair' condition and $12,000 in 'excellent' shape...

You might check out, if you have not done so already, some of the sites for classic car values...

Manheim Gold

or

NADA Car Values

Among others....

Good luck... I am sure Harold is happy staying home!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

If the car sells for a buck on eBay, that is the market price for that car in that venue on that day. It is no more or less correct than the ridiculous auction prices you see quoted in the enthusiast press.
Much as we might like circumstances to be different, MGB's are not all that desirable in the broader world of car collectors. There are just too many of them around.
You would probably do better by posting the car in a forum related to MGs specifically, or at least just Brit cars.
This one has been effective for me.
https://www.mgcars.org.uk/
It has a section for US listings.

Ronzi,

I must agree with you that the market, in whatever venue that may be, is determined by what someone will pay for an item..

The economics of supply and demand drive all markets. The insanity of the Barrett-Jackson venues where it almost appears that a clientel with 'more money than sense' drives prices up to astronomically high levels are an exception rather than the rule and should not be viewed in any way close to reality...

The choice of venue for the sale of anything will determine its price. As I said, and as you appear to agree, choosing the venue for the sale of something is as important as what you are selling. Your recommendation to list in a product specific venue is a good one and I would be hard pressed to disagree... I still think that eBay is not the best venue to use when selling a classic car.

Suffice it to say that we are not involved with LBCs for the re-sale value but, rather, for the joy of owning and driving one of these great cars.. I have never owned a classic of any kind that I sold for more than I invested...but that has never deterred me from gladly taking my checkbook out at the slightest provocation....
