If you haven't run the car many miles or really gotten on it the rings might not be seated. That will cause smoking on a new engine. Don't know how susceptible a BMC A engine is to that. Might want to talk to the supplier of the piston's and rings to see if they can give any info. What was done to the cylinder bores anyway?
