Great car, great job and I have enjoyed keeping up with your project. Just wanted to mention that running an oiler may be something to consider since vane type supercharger's have friction between the vanes and the case.

Kurt.

thanks all. In the original pics you should be able to see the oiler...George Folchi restored that for me too and I reinstalled it after I took the pic. Good catch Kurt!

couple more pics. is it spring yet?

and after much thought, and at George's advice, the supercharger is coming out... Going to run the the H1s for the first 1000 or so miles while we break in the rebuild on the engine... oh well...

Boy that looks nice! Probably a good call on the supercharger -- will be a hoot once the engine is all run in.

The car was finished in August and I've been able to use it a little bit - even made it to a cruise night with my folks... It came out beautiful - Jay did an incredible job. I havent had a chance to really photograph it yet, so far this is all I can come up with... when I made it to Caffeine and Carburetors in New Canaan. Such nice cars there. Some amazing XK120s, 150s and big Healeys... I was the only Bugeye...

It's really nice, good job!

Wow, very nice! Post more pictures when you get a chance.
Rut

Very nice, congratulations for getting it done and on the road!

Great job! Say, where did you get (what looks like) the new BE windshield wash bottle? been looking high and low for one that "new"

thanks for the compliments.

the rubber tunnel mat is original to the car. it was in horrible shape and i was going to toss it! jay was able to repair it and piece it back together - and did a **** fine job too! the floormats are from ahspares. not original, but in my opinion excellent ampco reproductions.

the washer bottle is also original to the car. jay just cleaned it up and sourced a new Tudor sticker.

so here's my only issue with the car and one that has me scratching my head. we had a complete rebuild done on the engine. rings, pistons, valves, everything. the engine runs great. starts right up, great oil pressure (30-60) and temps right in line. never overheats. problem is that it smokes. just a bit when warming up and then after fully warmed up it puffs a substantial amount of blue smoke when accelerating and then getting off the gas. i had the head sent back to have the valve guides and valves looked at and supposedly everything fine there yet it still smokes...

i've searched for threads on this and can come up with nothing. anyone have any thoughts?

On the supercharger, what does the oiler do? When the throttle closes there is a bunch of vacuum in the supercharge and the intake manifold. Where can it pull oil from?

the oiler drops oil into the intake and if it is not adjusted properly, it will cause the engine to smoke, but only at idle.

I would have suspected this would be my issue if the supercharger was actually installed... I made the decision to properly break in the engine with the original and freshly rebuilt SUs so that's what is on the car now... I've not run the engine with the supercharger yet...

When you run the Judson for the first time you are going to see smoke of EPIC proportions. I'm not kidding! George lubes them up so they can't run dry on that initial start up, post restoration. Plus the oiler will be set (IIRC) to over-oil, again so you can't accidentally run it dry. I wish I had a video of the cloud mine made that first time...

If you haven't run the car many miles or really gotten on it the rings might not be seated. That will cause smoking on a new engine. Don't know how susceptible a BMC A engine is to that. Might want to talk to the supplier of the piston's and rings to see if they can give any info. What was done to the cylinder bores anyway?

Kurt.

Thanks Kurt - I've taken it a bit easy on the engine so far and have about 250 miles on it. I'd thought that the rings would need time to seat also, so how many miles do you think I need to put on it before I rule that one out? The car only has 42k original miles on it and so the internals were all in great shape. The block was just cleaned up - honed maybe, but not bored as far as I know.
