The bottom of the gear shift lever has a slot let in near the bottom. What does this slot engage, if anything, and which direction does it face?
My bad- I took it out w/o making notes.
Thanks in advance.

If you are talking about the groove that goes around the ball at the bottom of the lever it has a rubber O ring in it to take out rattle.

Kurt.

The receiver for the shift lever has (or should have) a dowel that goes in that slot. If the dowel is in there you don't have any choice but to put the shift lever in correctly. Try inserting it and see if you don't see the dowel.
