TR6 Fiesta Bosch Bolt on TR6 Alternator

Can't seem to find my Lucas book at the moment, but I think you'll find that those high output alternators are substantially larger physically than the TR6 alternator. That doesn't mean they can't be made to fit, of course, just that it's not a simple "bolt-on" operation. Maybe Art has some outline drawings.

Also, as I've mentioned before, IMO that output connector is an inferior design and a common problem spot. No place for a quick-connect, let alone such a wimpy one. If you're going to do a conversion to "improve" things, might as well do it right and get a unit with a proper bolted connection.

Don, there are some other factors to consider; like max rpm and output at idle, but for the most part the alternator doesn't care what it's bolted to.

I believe that a few TR6s came with Delco alternators, if I am not mistaken.

I just did an engine transplant last week, and the alternator failed in a couple of days.
I had a Bosch Alternator for a Fiesta that I had purchased a few months ago with the intent of doing a swap out.
Good thing I had it.
I got it at Nappa, I believe it was $115.00.
It wasn't supposed to come with the pulley , but it did.
It was just about like installing the original equipment.
It doesn't get better than this.

I was told and I don't know this for a fact, but a TR7 w/ac
alternator should work too.

Welcome to the forum, 6parts. Nice 'n shiny alternator housing, looks sharp. What is that unusual looking tube coming out of your radiator? Never saw one with a crook in it.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:] anybody try one of these alternators? It's a Lucas part # LEA 0272 70 amp., which looks to be a direct bolt on for late model tr6. [/QUOTE]

Casey,

That output looks even better than mine, but I would definitely change the wiring with that bad boy.

Where to buy and price? Actually do you have a link to where you found that picture or more information?

Al,

Who polished that unit? And how did they do it so smoothly?

I know that it didn't come from NAPA looking like that?

Its something that I've been doing for awhile; Although my primary thing is intakes. Those I post on ebay.
Some of the other things I've done are on Triumphoners.

I've got a couple of special sanders that I use to sand them
and big polisher and buffing compounds.

Yes, I could tell that wasn't a weekend Black & Decker job. Very nice indeed.

Oh, I'm sorry. Welcome to the forum. How about a picture(s) of the rest of your TR6?

Paul
this should get you to the page, only one I could find showing the unit I mentioned earlier. The LEA number I posted is not a Lucas number, might be a JCB number.Lucas #'s are normally 5 or 6 digits if my memory is correct.

Did'n't get much info yet locally, other than LEA 0057 is physically the same as stock except shaft size is larger than the stock unit. However shaft size is the same as domestic auto's(chev, ford) so pulley should not be a problem. Haven't come up with any prices locally, work got in the road. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif hate when that happens!

....a beauty!! like that shiney stuff under the bonnet, and welcome to forum,

I see that you've been polishing the exhaust too.

Very nice. The car looks great.

Thanks,
You guys have got some really nice machines too.
I can't take credit for the exhaust, that's the sport exhaust and it comes that way.
I did polish the header, now that was a bit over the top. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif
If its made of aluminum or stainless, I've probably polished it.
