Engine Oil Type and Weight?

BJ7archaeologist said:
I'm in the process of changing my oil on my BJ-7 and I have a bottle of Topco to add. I forget what kind of oil and weight I used last time. Suggestions?

[1] Keep a written log of your cars maintenance.

Leave the "Toco " on the shelf.

Use Valvoline racing-VR1- 40, 50 or 60 weight depending on engine wear.

Keoke,

I am using the VR1 20w50 as you suggested to me. I noticed my oil pressure at idle now reading around 50~60 lb. I see you list 40, 50 or 60 depending on wear. Is 40 for more or less wear? If at 50-60 lb, what weight is recommended?

Are you reporting the pressure when cold, or when hot? Cold pressure is usually max at 60 or so. When hot on a tight engine it should be at 40, or 20 with a good but worn engine.

If at 50-60 lb, what weight is recommended?---For a low engine temperature idiling pressure in this range the 50 weight should be adequate.---Keoke
