Tony - oddly enough and not knowing about X heads, one may have been dropped off last night. I'll check later and let you know. How odd.

Here is the casting number on the head:

12H906
AF1

What can you tell me about it? It's presmog, big valve and has huge valve springs on it. Looks like they had to mill out the base for the springs as well.

It doesn't have the "X" embossed where the "L" or "H" are on later heads....its the Canadian version - almost as good...better than anything sent to the US!!

Compare it to a stock early MGB head....look inside the exhaust ports around the valve guides - is the area larger than a normal head.....take the largest US valve you can find & drop it in the valve guide & watch is be swallowed by your head.....pour a normal head's combustion chamber full of liguid wax & do the same with your head....weigh the 2 blobs of wax....yours will be heavier!

Good find!

Neat info. I'll have to check later.

I did notice that the head does not have an X, L or O. There is actually nothing in that spot. I think the head was milled out for larger valve springs - really large springs. It also looks like it was milled out for larger valves as well but they compare in size to the valve on my '74. How big you talkin' bout Tony?

I'll have to flip my 12H906 over to compare...all I really know is what the old guys tell me about that particular head....do you know Dick Leuning up in Wisconsin?

No can't say that I do. I'll snap a photo of it. I beginning to think it might be a modified B head without a letter on it.

Yep - Dick's the one who turned me on to "X" heads & got me searching for them....he's also the one who told me about the attributes of that Canadian head.
