Dowel bolt location

I have a question that I should know the answer to but, well, I don’t. Where do the dowel bolts that are used to align the bell housing to the rear engine plate go? I know that one goes through #1 in the picture below, but the Moss site and my manual don’t show where the second bolt goes. Thanks, Greg

You guys and your fancy graphics, I'm a bit jelious.

Note to self: speek with son on how that is done.

Hi Randy,
You must know that I’ve installed my tranny, which makes you pure evil. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Well Andrew, I had to you see the dowel bolt locations, when referenced to hands on a clock, come out as 11-and-5 oclock, Consequently, I couldn't figure out how to get the hands of Big Ben in the cubby box but the Otters fit in a nick.---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Okay, but not that low; there's no engine block on the forward side of that (#6) hole, just a gap before the sheetmetal oil pan.

Please note: that's an MGC XMSN, not an original Healey's.

Randy;
Only the one at 11 oclock threads into the engine block.---Keoke

Hi Randy,
The 2 dowel bolts are used to center the transmission to the engine. They should be the first to be fitted but they were back-ordered when I installed the tranny and I just haven’t gotten around to putting them in now that I have them. I think you’re talking about the dowels that locate the back plate to the engine block. Without those installed, the dowel bolts wouldn’t be very helpful. I think I've confused myself now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

Yep, that's what I thought you were asking about. My bad.

Whew!!---Keoke-- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Greg, check the "bolts" for tightness in the bellhousing holes they should be a slight friction fit.

Hi Keoke,
Thanks for the heads up on the bolt fit. I got sidetracked and couldn’t work on the car much last weekend.
