TR4/4A Does the water pump need to come off to remove the cylinder head?

You would think I'd know this at this point, but the manual isn't clear (to my eyes anyway since it only references that as a part of a full tear down).

I usually just unbolt the water pump housing (which includes the water pump) from the head. Also, the the pipe that attaches to the water pump housing has to be loosened.

No, the water pump housing is not attached to the cylinder head it is attached to the cyl block.
But since the heater pipe is "kind of in the way" and it only takes a few minutes to remove the WP housing with the heater pipe and water pump attached, I usually remove it for clear access to the head/cyl block interface for cleaning, etc.

I leave the water pump in place and also the heater pipe. I do remove the coil and then pull the heater pipe away from the block a bit (wedge or bungee) to get a bit of clearance on that side of the head.
