Deep Freeze

aerog said:
I love looking around at the neighbors on really cold mornings like this (about 25 this morning). A couple dozen look like they had their sprinklers on all night making the yard look like it got hit by a major ice storm. Hit 48 this afternoon and the areas in the shade were still all ice

Well, bundle up tonight, Scot, because:
Freeze in Florida worst in 20 years tonight!

Yup. Been out walking every day, enjoying it while I can.

Have you been roasting chestnuts on an open fire? Has Jack Frost been nipping at your nose?

The Boss has been nippin at sumpin

The strongest thing I ever nip at is Chocolate milk! Just polished of a tall cold one as a matter of fact.

It was 19 today. Dad drove the MG to his basketball game (our garage is detached and unheated, FWIW). Perfectly normal.

No! We're under a red flag fire warning, no open fires allowed

Root Beer for me. I try to stay away from soft drinks, but I've been keeping a case outside behind the house. Hasn't frozen yet, but grabbing one when it's about 30 out makes for a nice cold drink

18 in Ocala this morning, about 26 here near the coast.

Maybe not cold by Stateside standards but
we dropped to 48*F last night here in tropical
Puerto Rico. That is mighty cold for us.
Our homes have no heaters.

I must be crazy
On Saturday I refereed a youth soccer game played OUTDOORS at 9am. Temp. when I left my house was 21* with windchill it was 15*. I wore three layers of clothes BUT the 17 year old players wore shorts. The only good thing was that playing time was reduced to two 35-min. periods.

Warmed up today but yesterday morning it was a little below 0. I couldn't sit still and the TR still needed to change sides in the shed so I went out and it fired right up. Got a grin out of me.
Early Sunday morning, no traffic, snow hard packed on the streets it took all I had not to take it out, that would have been giggles but I just backed in for the next couple months.

Elliot- Good for you center ref or AR

Don- I had the middle. I felt bad for my AR's... it was bitter cold running those lines. We could have used a Zamboni on the pitch since there lots of ice patches.... just crazy!!!
I've been reffing premier youth and mens leagues for about 15 years.

I played on the WORST team in the leauge as a kid. We had this one guy who was dumb as a rock. You know, the kind that had broken glasses that were taped in the middle (he really did). Anyway, we used to practice on half of the field against ourselves... just like eveyone else did.

First game we have, the ball goes to this guy and he turns around and kicks it SQUARE into OUR goal. He starts jumpin' up and down and yellin', "YEAAAAH!!" just like "that" charater on "Crank Yankers".

We all were in shock. Needless to say, he wasn't on the team come next pratice.

Real nicve here today, sunny and about 50* or so. Went for a ride, forgot where I was going, went there anyway, total waste of time but I got to drive my car. Currently looking for an excuse to drive it somewhere again. No hats or gloves needed. My kinda day! Back hurts from installing new lug nuts. A really stupid way to hurt your back. Thank God it doesn't need real work on it....for the moment...

I was in Biloxi yesterday. I'm about 40 miles north of there in the Picayune area.

It's up in the thirties the last couple of days, and sunny. I'm perfectly comfortable being outside for an extended length of time in such conditions (of course, I dress appropriately). In fact I went for a short hike at Meadowdale Raceway yesterday, and discovered an abandoned truck in the woods!

Man, so did I, although we didn't have quite the issue you seem to have-we just had all the non-athletic kids in the league. I was on that team (it was the same team, with the same name) for the first four or five years I played youth soccer, but I was never placed on any of the really good teams. It put me off organized sports for a very long time, frankly. What always bothered me (in retrospect) was that the same two or three teams always had all the best kids, and the same two or three teams always had the worst-it seems that the sponsors (all teams were sponsored by local businesses) who paid the most got the best players. For a LOCAL YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUE! Grown ups, ****ing up everything for kids, as usual!
