Deep Freeze

Very light "mix" of stuff around noon at the airport today. Walked out the back door and started getting plinked in the face by something then noticed really thin waves of light gray stuff in front of the control tower. When I left I drove out of that and into rain, then a few miles later saw another area of it.

That was it!

Wondering the same thing - I was in Fairbanks.....cold there is way different than cold here & I don't mean temperature.

(Kelly and I were discussing that today. We had 16 doves in two rows of eight on the wire all bunched up together. If'un they get cold, I imagine they'll move to the tree or ground. The'll be fine. You can always thaw doves in brown gravy :cowboy: :devilgrin:

She's happy...lots of them using the feeder....except the Bluejays....they don't like the food...but the Cardinals & some little bird with a black head & white neck love the food...along with the yellow brested things.

Now, I've gott put another up with food Bluejay's like....think I'll put it along the stream between me & my neighbor's yard!
 
At our feeders, we have about a dozen species that feed including 3 (or 4, new one today) different wood peckers.

Red Tail hawk also buzz'es through once in a while to catch a snack on the fly, usually one of the clumsy doves.

yeah, they don't fly too well when you drizzle them w/ brown gravy.

Turtles in the lakes aren't moving either. They're floating around like lilly pads.
 
It's official: This morning it's snowing and sleeting in Daytona Beach. Snow began, officially, at 0715, turned to a snow-pellet mix, then all sleet at 0737.

Unofficially it was snowing very lightly here around 0500 until it started sleeting around 0615. Picked up pretty moderately for awhile but it's starting to fade out now. Temp's 35 and we've had pretty warm days so the ground isn't freezing.

Not much to look at, but it's a novelty :laugh:

It will be a nice warm, comfortable, sunny, mild breezy day in the 8's today.

They just don't have the infrastructure for weather like that occurring every 20 to 30 years, so even a little bit of snow screws everything up. It might finally stop my relatives from talking about "the storm of 63".
 
Around here, they're talking about the worst weather in the last 25 years.
 
Hrmmm... I'm thinking the lines for Splash Mountain are probably pretty short at Disney World today.

That sounds about right for here too. I remeber hunting in this stuff as a kid. It was UN-PLEASANT !!!! Ducks had ice on their backs. Floatin' tuttles aint a good thing. Can ya go get 'em and thaw 'em out? I like turtles, gotta be my most fav'rit animule.
 
We lived in Palmer which is 50 miles North of Anchorage in the Matanuska Valley. Believe it or not, we had a dairy farm and turned all of our milk into cheese for sale. First cheesemaking plant in Alaska...turned out to be just one of my failures in life! :smile:

A lot of people do but there just wasn't enough population up there to make it a viable operation.
