My problem was I was a nerd before that was a word.
I was desperate to be cool but never knew how.
Everything I tried was just pitiful.

For freshman year of the engineering program I was told that a calculator wasn't necessary. After my first test using a slide rule, I ran down to the bookstore and bought a HP21. RPN ever since.

I must admit thought that one of the coolest guys in my high school did end up as a shoe salesman a la Al Bundy. That always reassured me.

The absolute most intelligent guy in my class ended up in prison. He made a “black box” so he could make free calls anywhere in the country. This was obviously pre-cell phone.
