TR2/3/3A Choke Cable Detent Device

So I'm replacing the choke cable with a Moss part (OE Type) and I rotated the little spring collar that keeps the detent device in place and it flew out and hit my tee shirt just about belly button high. I never heard it hit the floor, bounce off of anything. I have no idea what it even looks like. Can someone at least describe it to me, a picture would be great. Is it ferris metal so I can at least use a magnet to help in my search of the shop floor?

The best description would be "wedge" shaped. I lost mine too, and fashioned one from a section of 1/4" brass welding rod. One side is curved, conforming to the shape of the collar. The other 2 sides are straight, forming the wedge. At least that's how I filed my replacement. Like you, I never had a chance to see the original that flew away!?!

I even bought a replacement cable, assuming my little wedge would eventually fail. It lasted more than 4 years until I sold the car...so the "new" cable will go on the TR2.

Thank you John. I now see why I couldn't find it or even hear it hit the shop floor when it bounced off of me. I made my replacement out of standard K and S brass strap that measures .032 in thickness. In the attached picture you can see I made very small 1/2 moon key that will fit under the spring clip once it is slipped over it and provide the detent function on the choke cable. Took a little filing to get it right, but now I know. IMG_2550[1].jpg

There you go! The trouble is that until you have moved that little clip and watched the detent go flying out once, you have no idea it is in there! Bet you never let it happen again...I know I won't...

Here's my current Choke Cable Detent Device

I was using the MK1 Clothes Pin Detent as well, but the owner wanted the cable replaced so.......

Hah! The CPD Mk1 works just fine for me. When I'm not using it, I clip it to the tonneau cover.

I have had my car for over a dozen years, and the choke detent has never worked. Geo told me about the CPD...

So that makes Masta and I OCD I guess...

Maybe so, but you have properly working choke cables, and I have a cute wooden kluge...
