Kodanja:

I custom designed a dash of my 69TR and am having it
carved by a local hardwood craftsman. He told me it
will be completed next week. I saw the rough cut last
week and it looked drop dead beautiful.

The craftsman expressed an interest in providing hardwood
dashes to other TR owners. Mine is his first attempt.

If I am satisfied with the dash quality, I will post a
photo with his e-mail address and phone # for reference.

regards,

d

'Prestige' is supposed to make some pretty nice dashs in several types of wood.

A friend of mine who was a woodworking fanatic joyfully agreed to make my dash. He did a beautiful job but once it was in the car and he knew it fit. he told me in no uncertain terms that he didn't want to speak of that dash ever again and to not give his name to anyone else needing one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif

I guess it wasn't his cuppa but he did do a very nice job o the dash. Here is a pic from re-assembly.

Shawn,

That is a beautiful dash! I absolutely love the grain.

My dash is from Prestige.... believe it or not, the back of the dash (painted gloss black) is just as nice as the front.

Beautiful dashes one and all.

I'll betcha I end up with the only
Puerto Rico rainforest hardwood dash!

I admire the burls but my personal taste goes
to the bold, sweeping wide grains like Shawns.

My car has no heater, blower or hoses of any kind.
For now, I have not cut any holes in either end.
I want to see the wood for a while.

If I lived in a tropical paradise, I wouldn't have a heater either!!

Come to think of it, I think we've used the heater twice in all of these years. Probably why the blower motor was seized up. When it sits all winter, except for round the block warm-ups, you don't need much of a heater.

About 10 years ago a friend of mine who is a bit of a woodworking hobbiest made a burled wood dash for one of my TR6's...He enjoyed it so much he made a few more of them and I was able to sell them for him at car shows.
Unfortunatly he's gotten out of woodworking, so now I am left needed a dash for my TC, MOSS sells a nice burled wood one, but it's pretty pricey...But I guess I'll have to suck it up and buy it eventually.

BTW: There was someone on the forum maybe 6 months ago that wanted samples of dashes in order to make new reproductions....Whatever happened to him?

That's my eight-month old boy named Evan. I'm trying to break him in early. Right after I shot that picture I drove him around the culdesac once... I think the exhaust scared him a little.....

And yes, he does like to gnaw the steering wheel.

I contacted the gentleman that was looking for dash patterns. He ended up relaminating the dashes from my Spitfire, my Herald and my Stag. The spit originally had the black vinyl dash. The other two cars had wood dashes. Triumph originally used the cheapest rotary cut veneers that they could get to face the dashes. Mystery wood on the Herald and teak on the stag. Rotary cut veneer does not produce very interesting grain. My "new" dashes are refaced with cherry and a re quite beautiful. The guy has decided that since there seems to be some variation amongst the english car dashes, he is going to concentrate on refacing original dashes. If anyone is interested in contact information, send me an email and I'll get it to you. . I'll also try to get a picture of my dashes posted soon.

I also got mine from Prestige Autowood in CA. It is beautiful and a perfect fit. I got the African Rosewood, too, and am glad I did. Althoght the price was steep ($460) I think the fit and finish is beyond compare.
