Bugeye - Reduced to $500!

Good luck, and good on you for taking on another little Bugeye in need of (a lot of) love!

And we very willing to do so.

Ok it has been nearly 5 1/2 years, but slowly we make progress. She is now in paint! Now some assembly will be required!:cheerful:

Lots of stuff yet to do!

WOW! Way to dig up an old thread!

Here is how she looked after I took it apart years ago. I think Tony would be pleased to see another B/E saved. I got a bunch of parts from him when I got the car!

Wow, talk about a blast from the past. Sure looks nice -- the assembly part should be fun (and far cleaner).

Great work Paul. It looks gorgeous. What did you end up doing about a bonnet??

Kurt.

Strangely, my early posts were correct and I needed a new bonnet. I did source an other original and someday I will get it repaired, but I got a Speedwell Monza bonnet and the tub of another 71 midget for $350. I will start a new post as I put the car together and all the little goodies I have put together for this project. Here is a picture of the bonnet after I painted the inner side of the bonnet last year.

Did you paint a texture on the inside of the bonnet? I'm about to do mine, i wan't to clean up and paint the inside of the bonnet, but I don't want to spend a lot of time on it.

Gee I thought all the good deals were here in the NW!

Rick
I got the tub, bonnet and a very nice Monza gas cap in the deal. I have yet to check the diff on the car and am wondering what is in it. The midget was a trackracer with a high end 1275, 5 speed with a modiified triumph spitfire front suspension. The seller sold those parts and this was what was left of the car.

Nice!
Did the bonnet need any repair?

Nope. Just cleaning and painting.

Well on the one hand I guess I can hope I run across a deal like that some day.
On the other hand you may have just got the last (used) one!
I was passing with a fella at Speedwell today, wondering if the wreck of a Spridget fiberglass front is a Speedwell.
Nice people there!

Apbos, you have an absolute knack for finding the bargains, that's for sure! That tub turned out gorgeous -- I love that color.

A Speedwell bonnet for $350? WITH a tub?! I've been nearly desperate for a fiberglass front end -- ANY front end; Speedwell, Bugeye, Box, Sprinzel, Arkley -- for a budget that's next to $0.00. (My fenders are deteriorating quickly and my wheel arches are popping.) I was starting to give up hope...Good to know that bargains are still to be found occasionally. :eagerness:

Paul,

What paint did you use on your BE. Looks fabulous and I know you can't wait to make it go Vroom, Vroom.
