Beginning of my restoration - '65 MKIII

Boomer, you mention you might sell those wheels.
What size are they and what shape are they in, depending on price and shipping to Canada I might be interested.

email me ggagne1101@rogers.com

thanks

1. im not sure. I have a brand new heater shelf to install that came with the car so perhaps the original was damaged? maybe they removed it when they swapped in the 1275?

2. no, those are the holes for those bolts. I removed the bolts and then had a heck of a time getting the dust caps off. I kept working around the perimiter of the cap with a rubber mallet and a small flat blade screwdriver and didnt seem to be getting anywhere.

I have a set of 4 of these and 4 Falken 205/60 R-13's. the tires look pretty new...very little wear on them. Two of the tires are mounted 2 are not. the chrome is in fair shape with a little bit of pitting and a little bit of rust but should clean up pretty nicely. the tires are too wide to fit under the rear fenders on my 65. The width and offset seems to be the same as the factory steel wheels. What do you guys think? should I keep them or sell them? Im partial to the minilites but these are chrome and match my chromed roll bar and dash /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif if I keep them, new tires will likely be required.

I have 3 old steel wheels if anyone is interested in those.

The wheels look ok Boomer,, I have a 1970 SWA and run the stock 155 80 13 so I doubt there would be interference...are you still thinking of selling,,, can you post pics of all 4 please... thanks

i will try to take pics this week sometime. Id be willing to swap them for a set of panasports, minilites etc. Dont really know what they are worth. id be willing to entertain offers.

Didnt get much interest on the wheels, so I think I will keep them and just replace the tires with something more appropriate.

I keep thinking about what type of performance I want to get out of this car and I'd like to end up somewhere around 100hp at the rear wheels but I need it to be reliable. Im thinking some massaging of the block and head and adding a supercharger. Intead of the roots type of superchargers I was thinking about adapting a centrifugal type of supercharger and using a carb hat to force the air into the carb. (Like the old Paxtons that were fitted to Shelby mustangs and the like)Im assuming this would require me to swap out the webber carb that I have.

Ultimately I would love to do EFI + Forced Induction but that may be well above my abilities. and my ever shrinking budget.

Progress wise I am in the middle of rebuilding the brake system. All of the brake lines and hoses are being replaced, I have rebuilt the calipers, in the process of rebuilding the master cylinder, replace pads and shoes. I installed brand new Brembo rotors on the front. I have ordered a tube shock conversion with adjustable KYB shocks. New boots will be installed on the steering system. I am planning on lowering the car slightly as well.

Once I get some of these parts re installed on the car I will take some more pics.

Finally got the old hood hinge out. looks like it had firmly rusted together.

Wasted way too much time on that but atleast its done.

Still working the brakes over: Rotors, calipers, new braded stainless steel lines have been installed. I am in the process of replacing the remainder of the brakelines with new ones. I borrowed a hone from a friend and cleaned up the master cylinder. Installed a rebuild kit and everything seems to be working fine. I re installed the master cylinder into the clutch and brake pedal housing and I only have one bolt for it. Any Ideas as to the size of the bolts used here? I may have to pull the other one and run down to the hardware store.

Im thinking about adding a brake servo while I am in the process of replumbing all of this...anyone have one installed? pros? cons?

I purchased a tubeshock conversion kit for the rear end for $200.00 off of ebay. Seems to be very similar to the kits that Moss and VB sell...Didnt go for the Spax shocks however...settled for a pair of KYB gas-adjust shocks instead. Installation was pretty smooth except for one hole in the adapter plate didnt quite match up with one of the existing lever shock mounting holes. I will have to redrill this hole in the plate.

Got the sprite back out of storage a few weeks ago and got things moving again. I had a shop here in OKC go ahead and mount the fuel cell in the trunk, fabricate the motor mounts and build an exhaust header for me. The shop is called Vintage Connection. Chris Campbell over there does a very good job and are great to work with!!

looks great!

That is a really straight car! the quality is superb, The rotary fits beautifully - how much adapting did you have to do?

fitting the rotary really was fairly straight forward. we had to open up a section of the underbody behind the crossmember to allow access to both sides. a jaguar transmission mount was slightly modified to mate the rx7 transmission to the sprite crossmember. a tailshaft housing from an '82 626 was bolted up to the rx7 transmission moving the shifter to a location that aligns with the existing shifter hole in the tub. from there a pair of rx7 front isolation mounts were bolted to the locations where the original a-series engine mounted and a plate was fabricated to span between the two mounts and attach to the front cover of the rotary engine. the only other modifications was to slightly open up the area where the exhaust header passes by the frame rails and a portion of the heater shelf must be removed. our heater shelf was already removed by the previous owner.

i make it sound so simple.

Oh, well, if it's that easy.....

That looks great, nice work! I love the wheels, where did you find them?

the wheels are a set of 13x5 radirs from the 60's id guess. came with the car and has the radir name cast into the back of them. Previous owner had some wide ass tires mounted on them and had planned on cutting out the square wheel arches. Most of the radir's that I have seen are 5 spoke. These are the only ones Ive seen that are a 4 spoke.
