Hey guys;

I quit cold turkey back in 1981. Hard as all get out, but worth it.

I KNOW YOU"SE CAN DO IT!!!!!

I'm with ya boys, GOOD LUCK

Dave

Every time you want to reach for a smoke, put the price of a pack in a LARGE jar.....you'll have enough for another LBC in NO TIME and be healthier for it! And tell SWMBO that it was money you were already spending....!

The start in any great journey begins on day one......

bah... stagger'd.

Stood up for two... TWO appointments. One was 'cause the principle is sick so that's not so bad, other called to reschedule for Monday.

PACE...

Pace...

pace, pace,pace....

...smoke...

Self loathing. (not so much it'd be of concern).

I've had three of the things since noon. This will end. Went out to the post office, ran to a client's pitch, ferreted about the Chamber of Commerce... came back to th' hovel and lit one. Butted it, lit it again...

I've got a good appreciation of the physical damage it does. Intellectually I know it's poison. No illusions. Done segmented biopsy photos for medical records in the past... lungs. I just gotta hit the point in my pea brane where it makes more sense to go thru the withdrawl than to satisfy the durn'd receptors SCREAMIN' for MORE!!!

Keep it up, Mark. Three days in you'll be over th' hump. I ~will~ be right behind.

3 days huh...
whew.

ya know i bought a pack this morning (havent opened it) but it was a habit- when i am out i buy some. Now that i have some i dont need to buy more..hey it works for me. They sat there the whole ride home..

still havent had one. I wont...dirty disgusting things- money sucking gross habit.

Had a pretty vivid dream last night- the box said i might. i like dreams

Doc, three aint bad- I used to smoke three before i was awake in the morning. Sorry about your lousy day. Look ahead not back.

Good future cliche Mark.

Never look in your rear view mirror when pulling away from a bad habit.

Man, that's good...........

Motivation is the key. Find something that will work. I quit cold turkey 4 1/2 years ago. My motivation? Looking at the scars on my arm leg and chest from the bypass surgery. Remembering the pain and discomfort of that experience (not to mention nearly dying on the table) keeps me away from the blasted things when all else fails. You can do it if I can.

June 16, 1991 was my quit day. 2 1/2 to 3 packs a day. Quite cold turkey! Hardest thing I ever did but the best thing I ever did. Had smoked since I was 16. More years than I care to count. My best friend who 'taught' me how to smoke is now on oxygen, severe COPD.

Each day is the beginning of your life. Knew I was good to go when I could laugh from the pit of my stomach and not choke to death! You will be amazed at how nice it is to smell clean and not like the remnants of last night's cigaretts. Be strong, I'm rooting for you all!!! :grouphug:

Thought I'd throw in my two coppers. I have been an addict of the evil weed in one form or another for 20-23 years. My dad passed in "97" of COPD and Lung Ca. I promised myself that i would quit.... one day. Fast forward to a year and 1/2 ago, i was diagnosed with Melanoma skin Ca. All treatment went exceedingly well. I promised myself during that ordeal that I would do two things before I turnd 40 this year. 1. stop dragging my feet and buy an LBC, and 2. quit tobacco for good.

I somehow, unintentionally, put the two quests in the same mental "in-box". June of last year i bought my spitfire, and soon thereafter quit the cig's. So far, so good. I read somewhere that kicking tobacco is harder than heroin, I believe it. Years past I would have already bought a can of snuff that would eventually lead back to the cig's. This time is different, because it has to be. I had to re-learn some things, coffee drinking has become a singular pleasure, (not to mention it tastes better), long trips in the car, as well as working on the car.

I don't, and won't preach, I'm just a grunt member taking it one day at a time.
(June of 09 will be one full year, only a few months shy of 40)

Good luck to all!!!

Doug

:iagree: Darwin is right. Motivation. When the surgeon told me to save my money and not waste his time if I continued to smoke, I quit cold turkey. Funny thing though, it was easy. I never wanted another one. In past years I had tried to quit a 2 pack-a-day habit several times with no success. I guess that "motivation" was the key. Keep at it. We are all pulling for you. It will surely be one of the best things you have ever done.

I am like Mickey, tried 'em as a kid and hated the taste, and have never seen the point in them since. I realise what they do for the senses initially, and understand why people get hooked. I am fortunate in that for me, they didn't happen.

well end of today it will be one week. I like the one day at time thought. It is a "line in the sand" so speak. I went three days with the patch. but i think it was making me feel funny, so i dropped it. It is funny that, Bayless, you mention the doctors attitude, i have seemed to notice that medical professionals dont want to give you the time of day once they find out your a smoker. Not sure it is right, but what are you going to do? why should they want to help you, if you wont help yourself. man i want a smoke......it comes and goes.. especially here at work. and speaking of work, i had better get back to it...

Actually stopped snuff for 6 months once using Wellbutrin...

Never thought once about the stuff during that time.
Amazing thing!

Curious side effect though.
Mania...No kidding!

Slept about 2 hrs/day, painted the house 3 times & the cat was afraid of me.

After I developed a tolerance for the medication, I slipped.
Although...I'm using a brand now that has the least amount of nicotine.
(As opposed to 1 1/2 cans of Copenhagen/day)
