Advice needed - is it possible to... tach & choke?

Ok - Frank has the Nissan power train & the Lucas electrical.

I'm stuck with this Hitachi carb until I find a way to replace it.

The carb has an electric choke that doesn't work well, I'd like to replace it with a manual choke. I can get a choke cable easily enough, but how do I hook it up? I know this isn't specifically a Midget question, but it's in my Midget and I want to get it working better while I search for the right replacement.

Next, I have a good tach in the dash but it's apparently not connected. How should it connect? There's some kind of electronic distributor and what appears to be a standard kind of coil in the car.

Thanks!

If it is just a temp fix, there is a manual choke conversion kit available in the "HELP!" section of most big parts retailers (Autozone, Advance, etc.). It should fit up with maybe a little modificaiton. It's a pretty flimsy set up though, and I would not expect it to be a good long-term solution.

I hate to be a negative Nelly, but my experience with those Hitachi carbs is that once you disrupt the very complicated vaccuum circuitry, it is nearly impossible to get them to run right.

Thanks Morris, it runs like crap when cold & pretty good when warmed up. Thus I was thinking of just ripping off all the choke related stuff & putting on a manual choke.

Everyone who runs the craptacular Zenith 150CD / water carb is feeling your pain, Rick. I certainly understand the appeal of the idea of a mechanical choke. I had to change to a Weber to get one...

Yeah - maybe that's what I will have to do if I can't find a manifold & twin SU setup at a price I can afford.
