The substructure looks to be reasonably sound?

Do the panels fit well?

The panels fit decent, but due to previous repairs, they weren't great. Frame is solid. The only repairs I found were to the outer sills, lower front fenders, and lower portion of innner door channels at the front.
 
The hinge pillar panel and side reinforcement were in bad shape at the bottom. The metal came in from Moss motors, so I decided to go ahead and remove the rotten pieces. I ended up removing the newer rocker panel as well. It had been poorly seam welded in place and whoever did the repair welded the rotten metal at the bottom of the pillar to the new rocker panel. the only way to get to the rust behind it and to remove the portion of old metal welded to it was to remove it and cut it off. I will properly spot weld the rocker back in place after the door channel/pillar is repaired.






Im going to need to fab up a repair piece for the bottom portion of the bracket pillar.

I now have easy access to repair the area where some special person drilled holes in the kick panel to gain access to the fender for the installation of a crappy aftermarket antenna.
 
Went by and checked out the panels the other day. They soda blasted them back in December and they are starting to work the metal back into shape.


One quarter panel repaired.





Here is the passenger quarter panel. There is a dent the size of a fist in the back that was previously stuffed full of filler. I can't believe how much filler was put on these panels or the fact that it was not cracking or flaking.





The front end is a bit of a mess. Somebody really hammered the crap out of it in an attempt to knock out damage from a front end collision. You just never know what is lurking under paint. I will never again buy, or let a friend or family member buy a "reconditioned" car without proof of the bodywork.

Engine is out.





When I drained the oil from the engine it came out like Campbell's chunky soup. I've never seen oil look this gross. The car was purchased in 2009 and since it was inoperable from day one, we never changed the oil. However, I have never seen oil turn into sludge just from sitting around, so who knows how old it was. I could not pick any chunks out of it, but it appeared to be separated. No antifreeze was present and it only had a light gas odor.



Surprisingly, the cylinder bores look to be in great condition with fresh hatch marks. The cam lobes show some wear, but hard to say what condition they are in. Im dropping the engine off to have it fully inspected since the oil looked so bad.



Leaky freeze plug. This one is different from all the others and has some sort of sealant smeared around it. Clearly the sealant did not work.



Any help with identifying the date and exact specs of engine would be greatly appreciated. Late 66 build date for a 67???





Temp sending unit bulb still stuck in engine. I hope the mechanic can remove it without too much trouble.

If that's a polished turd then the one Im doing was in the realms of pureed pigeon S%#t.... .
Only about 15% of the superstructure was salvageable , thanks to Marty at Jule I now have a great superstructure to work on .Its waiting for me to finish the 64 Im working on right now then its the 62 Tri-Carbs turn . ... Im a glutton for punishment.

The attachment shows what was left after the sandblaster had its way with her .
 
haha! Well, I'm sure what we paid for the polished turd was a good bit more than what you paid for your pureed pigeon shart, so... :smile: If that was truly all that was left of your superstructure after blasting, that is flat out scary!
 
I find it surprising that KT would risk his reputation by selling a polished turd.
Curious to know whether the car was actually auctioned by KT or by an owner who claims the car was restored by KT?
Maybe it's a fake KT restoration?

He brought the car to the auction, represented it and promoted it up until he stepped out of the car on the stage. "drives like a dream. I just finished taking it on a long cruise around southern California to make sure all the bugs were worked out and it was tuned just right....she's ready for someone to really enjoy". His exact words.
 
I can't help but feel that there must be more to this?...in any case, best of luck with the re-restotration.

No, there isn't more to the story. Some people will do anything to earn a few dollars.
