TR2/3/3A 1958 TR3 Project

Seen where someone had added 6" to the width of a TR3. 6" strip along the entire length of the car.
Looked like they did a good job on the bodywork. Can't remember why they did it, maybe to make more room for a bigger motor or more cockpit room.

Spent the weekend in Indio (apparently around the corner from sagebrushbob) helping my dad get his TR6 ready for paint. Picked up this TR3 motor that I had delivered to my brothers place. I commandeered a TR6 trans from my dad to use to mock up the car. We pulled the pan and it looks clean, and can be turned over. The motor was compete minus the starter. Gonna pull and rebuild the head, but the bottom end may be good for now. Motor number is 31735 so a few thousand off from my car.

I suppose you know there was a change in starters, flywheels & bell housings - your engine is before the change and the gearbox (bell housing) is after the change. Looks like you will be okay with the early style 'bomb' starter but you will want to review the situation and confirm the flywheel is correct.

I notice the engine seems to be in original paint. Has the TR in red paint on the starter side.

For sure. I anxiously await videos from Tush. Was watching him long before I even owned one. He is a great resource and way more interesting than 99% of the crap on TV.

You latest project would most likely have been sent to the crusher/breaker if you hadn't taken it on. Really making a silk purse from a sows ear!!

Not much to report just collecting parts. Currently remodeling a rental so that is eating much of my time. Also we got a ton of snow so been doing a lot of skiing as well...priorities. I did order new floor pans from TRF. They were on sale, and had all the bits attached. Here are some photos for those trying to make the same decision.

Thanks for the pictures of the TRF floor pans. I ordered the pans off of Ebay from a Detroit supplier. I now see the big difference, besides price. The TRF pans have much deeper pressings whereas the Detroit ones are shallow, presumably hand pressed. The pressing locations look very similar though. I wish I had seen these earlier as I have installed one side and cannot see ripping it out now!! The sill outriggers may need moved up a little for the hand pressed ones since the pressing for floor attachment isn't so deep. Price was less than half however. Live and learn.

Moss used to sell those. I had to argue for a week to get them to take them back...tells me they didn't want them either!?! I was still out $130 in round trip shipping. Like you said, live and learn. These "hand stamped" panels still show up via various distributors and for various prices, usually with the "made in USA" advertised all over. This is one case of made in USA not being a quality product, though. They are cheaper...and the ones I received were actually thicker metal.

Made a little progress today. Was able to remove the majority of the metal masquerading as floor boards. I still need to cut the spot welds and clean up all the edges. The PO was kind enough not to hack off all the flanges and left much of the edges of the originals. What I thought was liquid nails turned out to be a combo of bondo and caulk. It smelled wonderful when I hit it with my cutoff wheel. There appears to be a little rot on the drivers inner sill near the pedals, shouldn't be too difficult to repair.
