T-Series 1953 MG TD Reassembly - CONTINUOUSLY UPDATED

Very nice, Tony. Got to be hard at this point, still lots to do but it's getting close. I'd be wanting to work 24/7 to get it done as quickly as possible... but you can't rush a real quality job. That's one beautiful car!

Yes, those are NOS Lucas driving lights!

Why no headlights? My new chrome headlight trim & my Lucas tripod lights haven't arrived yet.

....& this is how she'll look for the next 3 weeks while I'm out of town:

...they'll take the time while I'm away to go over the body & correct/repair any little nicks or dings I might've inflicted on it during assembly....& they'll also bring in the professional buffing/detail guy to go over the body & get that high - looking into water - sheen I want.....we're gonna buff the hood separate from the car because I want both sides buffed...& they'll finish installing the welting along the bottom edges of the front fenders & running boards after she's buffed.

Plus I've gotta adjust the radiator top forward about 3/4" so the hood fits perfectly. And we have to complete the final reassembly of the windshield frame so it can be installed.

...& remember that expensive wind chime? This is all that's left:

That's what we've been using inside the bodyshop to keep dust & possible overspray off it...they'll have it out from under the wrap several times...its dry inside & air can get underneath.

Jack, Ricky has a guy he's been using to buff out every car after its totally assembled...maybe we need to schedule Miss Agatha for it - but she can't be wrapped for travle afterward.
 
yep that would be good but they need to do some body work including welding in three places they missed.

How long does it take to schedule him, I will call them when I get the engine sorted out. In a few weeks I expect.

Yea I know she will have to travel in the open, so goes it.

Local club member's old MGA - it was a rough one before Rckey worked his magic on that body tub! Now he's turning to each panel. They've already finished the frame & the guy's rebuilding the suspension/wood right now.

...& he has me tentatively penciled in over the winter after I replace the clutch in the '63 Midget - she's gonna get a new coat of paint for the show in Missouri...can't have her parking next to Miss A with old clothes!!
 
Gesh, maybe I had best call next week.
 
& there's a '68 Ford convertible already in the sand blast booth....& a '39 Chrysler waiting....& outside the shop getting disassembled for cleanup is a '62 or '64 Nova SS.

...& tomorrow we adjust the rake of the radiator shell, adjust and tighten the front fenders & running boards to include installing the welting and install the hood latches.

We'll also tackle putting the windshield together.

Plus, today I disassembled the instrument cluster so its panel can get a coat of the proper color paint - they'll lay that paint tonight.

Between tweaking us all as the build goes on and the excitement of closing in on drive away day I don't know how you can sleep at night. And did anyone notice that beautiful Case tractor behind that old beige car??
 
No photos today - just 6 hours spent adjusting the radiator shell & hood fitment! & installing the hood latches.

Tomorrow I'll lift the front fenders to their final position & adjust the hood latching mechanisms & drill the running board bolt holes through the new wood at the bottom of the tub...then the body itself is finished.

Windshield installation & instrument cluster & she's ready for top & side curtains....the instrument cluster turned out nicely when it was repainted....I'll post photos tomorrow after I reinstall it.

Lesson learned today: Fit & adjust the radiator shell & hood before installing the front fenders & headlights!

Here's a photo of the instrument panel after it was painted using Moss' dash paint:

Everything on the body is now finished...windshield is only major thing left. I dropped my old windshield off at the glass shop today for them to make a template & cut a new one. The old one is beginning to yellow around the edges due to age. My bodyman is on vacation until Monday so we'll build the windshield frame & install the new windshield then.

It'll come home then for me to do the side curtains, convertible top & tonneau.

Next photos will be of completed car with windshield installed outside in the sun!
 
That is really really nice looking Tony. Dare I ask, does it run?

How about the glove box cover?
