T-Series 1953 MG TD Reassembly - CONTINUOUSLY UPDATED

Well, 3 more hours this morning spent on the latching assembly of the passenger door - I now know doors inside & out! Got the door panel & kick panel back on, then installed the welting on the passenger side & got the little bracket for the rear side curtain installed; had to drill new wood screw holes as this is a new piece of wood (used the original wood screws though):

Oh, while working in the door opening, I looked for signs of sill plates - they were there before we painted her!

Also got the passenger side rear tub panel on (passenger interior of the car sans carpet is finished!)...& test fitted my primered side curtains....didn't install the front bracket for the rear curtain, however, as I couldn't remember how it goes on (vping, please??):

& this is how she'll sit for 2 weeks (covered with a clear sheet of plastic to keep dust off her)...

Tomorrow I've got to babysit my grandson while his mom & dad go to the funeral of his paternal great-grandmother.

Then, Sunday I fly to Watertown, NY for 2 weeks...but, have no fear, new parts will continue to go out directly from the warehouse!
 
3 Phillips head screwas hold a plate with a stud. The stud is for the samll handle/Knob that keep it into place. I am missing the driver's door knob and not sure if there were any washers originally.

I'm out of town until the 24th....its resting in the bodyshop under a sheet of clear plastic
 
So, today I get a phone call from Jim @ Knox Custom Chrome....they've got my TD grille shell down to bare metal & are working on it in preparation from new chome.....but it has a crack in it & when they try to repair it, some of the solder used to hold the slat clips to the inside runs into their work & the repair won't 'take'.....they're gonna try to make a patch that won't show from either side; however....

How hard is it gonna be to find another grille shell?
 
For a TD? Not that hard. It won't be cheap but they are out there. I see them at swap meets all the time. TC is more difficult so count your blessings there.
 
I'm working on an original air cleaner for my 1952 MGTD. The air cleaner I found has no throat to attach to the manifold an I have made a throat to the size of the manifold and of the air cleaner opening. All I need to know is how far does the throat stick out of the bottom of the air cleaner?

Well, let me know when you find out - I don't have one either!

What did you make the thrat out of? I can figure the height.
 
I made the throat out of some 1 3/4 inch tail pipe. The pipe was stretched open on each end at my friendly muffler shop to the opening dimensions of the air cleaner and manifold. Now all I need is the distance the bottom portion sticks out from the air cleaner.
 
I've got an original and it sticks out 1" however the air cleaner is dished. It's raining like crazy here so I'll take a picture tomorrow and post it. The stub is also slotted to fit over the manifold.

The part that goes over the carb? That's what I need also.

Do you mean over the throat of the carb?

Photos of everybody's air cleaners, please....bottom photo is important.
 
Yep, just what I neded - thanks!

So, in the photo below, the pipe is 1-3/4"ID by 1" long (outside the cleaner)....is it spot welded to the cleaner or just shoved up inside tightly?

It's slipped in an internal extrusion and then tacked.
I'll take some more pics tomorrow and then post - going to watch the Bristol race.

COMPLETE TOTAL DEAD STOP!!!!!

Radiator shell can't be repaired!
