windshield pillar plating

I am in the process of restoring my 1962 AH 3000 BJ7, and need advice about the windshield pillars. The pillar is several pieces rivited together and it appears that everything was chrome plated as a rivited-unit. Is this correct? And does anyone have experince sending the pillars to a plater? Any recommendations on a plater?

I was told by the plater that it would be better to disassemble the pillars as some parts are brass and some are stainless. The stainless piece on my car was not plated. This was a huge pain in the a**. Installing the 3/16" steel rivets required a heavy duty riveter that I borrowed. You have to be very careful, you don't want to just go banging away on the rivets for your newly plated parts. You can purchase the proper rivets from British Car Specialists. I have seen a car with the posts plated without being disassembled and it looked ok. I would check with your plater for their recommendation. Have a good day!

My 64 BJ8 got sprayed with gravel from a truck which put several marks on the paint as well as the windshield. The body shop that did the repair disassembled the windshield (eight pieces, I believe) and then replated them separately. Riveting the pieces back together was a PITA. Cost was about $1500, just for the windshield. Another $1500 to repaint the front fenders and shroud. The insurance company was great about it.
