When is a driver, a restoration?

I had a running 76 Spitfire and it has been sitting for 5 years. Not sure if it will start up with some new gas and an oil change. As I keep buying more and more new parts to put on it (wife :wall:, she says if it was running before why do I need new parts for it), at what point is a "driver" a project?
She also wants to know when I'm going to teach her to drive the TR8.

At this point, you don't have a driver, so it is automatically now a project.

I would teach the wife to drive the TR8. That would make her much more amiable to the project.

You can always try this statement with your wife, " I can either have a hobby of cars or women, the car is cheaper for both of us."

By definition: The car that has been sitting for 5 years, and for which you have been accumulating parts, is a "project." It ceased being a "driver" about 5 years ago. It can be returned to driver status at any time -- though, having sat 5 years, it will surely take at least a few parts & hours to accomplish that transformation. OR -- it can be made into a BIG project.

See? You have options.

and without those parts, the project becomes (as Dr. Entropy says) "upscale yard art".....

Does your wife let you decorate?

A variant of that was a favorite with my first wife (deceased). She frequently said that she would much rather have me tinkering in the garage, than sitting on a bar stool.

If it's registered ,it's a driver. No plates,it's a project. Dont know your wife, but tell her every part costs $200 bucks. Set of points $200 bucks. Windshield wiper,$200 bucks. Get the message. Build up a stash. If you are lucky and have a special kind of wife who can handle the truth,do it. Im lucky. I met my second wife in May 2003.She loves car shows and I havent mowed the lawn since May 2003. Remember- Women buy clothes. Men buy project cars and tools.

Howdy Tom,

"The Boss hates shopping"! Man, You have "One in a Million" there! I`d keep her for awhile & teach her to drive the TR8. Then again, If you teach her to drive the "8"; She`ll probably want to drive to the Mall & Show it off.

Have Fun with Your "Project".

Why quibble over semantics,ALL cars older than 10 years are projects.Go to any show you want to and find the nicest car there, talk to the owner and you will find he has some "things he still wants/plans to do" Dont kid your self or your sweet wife, its a fun hobby and the money spent is a better investment than most stocks.Besides fixing a sick stock is darn near impossible, they just ask you to leave when you try to suggest anything.....

Maybe the follpowing definition?

Resortation is when the whole thing gets attention, driver is when only what breaks get attention?

I'm taking the "Boss", who is really a sweat lady, to the school parking lot this afternoon after she gets home with the kids from visting the grandparents at the farm. I'll get her set with the"8", and the "boy" with his bike.(took the training wheels off).
I do agree, it is a heck of alot more fun when the family is involed.
That's why I got to get the Spitty up and going.
