What to do with OEM calipers?

I have two pair that have been replaced with the Toyota calipers. I guess I could hold on to them forever in case I get an extreme case of "originality-itis" (<span style="text-decoration: underline">not that there is anything wrong with that mind you</span>).

I tend to hang on to the extra stuff (and have the closet to prove it) but a more sane approach might be eBay or elsewhere since these aren't really 'spares' but just parts no longer applicable for you.

I suppose if you cleaned them up and fit them with new pistons, seals & boots and they would sell for much more and more readily -- but you would need to include a legal disclaimer of discouraging length.

Yeah, good point on the legal disclaimer. Probably better to sell them as cores and let the other people deal with the rebuild for liability purposes.

I've done a slew of mods and changes to my TR3, (you can read the list here), but everyone is reversible, because I've kept all of the parts. If I ever decide to sell the car, having those parts might go a long way in getting more for the car.

For the few bucks you could get for them, I'd keep the calipers.

Edit: Well, milling 0.090" off the head and re-grinding the cam is irreversible! But a concours judge would never know. :laugh:

I wonder if TRF or Moss would be interested in them as cores.

I know that TRF was short on MG caliper cores last spring.

Try TRF or possibly Apple or one of the other rebuilders. They might buy them from you.

Speaking of calipers, what are people's opinions of going the toyota route vs the willwood caliper route?

I've thought about sending my calipers out to be rebuilt, but I'm thinking I would probably rather go with better new brakes instead. (in which case i'll have the same issue with what to do with my originals!)

Toyota calipers are an easy swap, and seem to be well thought of once installed. I have them on the '74 TR6 and both TR4As. Only actually used them on the TR6, but it was driven con brio and they did great.

Several good threads on this if you search. If you go this route ping me if I can help, bit of a specialty for me at this point. Grin.
