What is the Captive Nut?

Forgive me. The four Bolts that hold the front Spring Plate to the floor are 3/8 and the the front sprint bolt is 7/16 I believe. Not sure what other you are refferring too?

I mean the plate that attaches the front of the (rear leaf) spring to the floorboards - two bolts from the top/ two from the bottom. The captive nuts I'm referring to are the ones on the body of the car ie the bolts from the bottom up.

Don't think they are 3/8 though

thanks - and I realized that pretty quick today. Bought the tap for chasing the threads - any advice other than oil?

1/4 turn forward back up 1/4 turn forward back up. Should be pretty straight forward. Unless the threads have been exposed to the elements for some time, should be rather easy.

Note to self - chase the threads before you try to mount the rear springs and the 45 minute job will actually take 45 minutes and not 4+ hours. Especially chase the threads if the car had been media blasted/ the underside painted or it's been on the road in the last 50 years.

Don't ask me how I know /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

PS I was stunned at the amount of c**p that came out.

I had my car media blasted and after vacuming it hundreds of times I still get particles coming out of strange areas each time I drive
