Tie Down Those Brake Lines to the Diff

Does anyone have a simple procedure for attaching the stock (repro) metal straps to tie down the hard brake lines to the differential tube? I'm looking at the strap and not sure how to do this without making a mess of it. Maybe inept backyard mechanics like myself should just use zip ties?

Pat-

I've seen the engine work you've done - I definitely wouldn't describe you as an inept backyard mechanic!

Don't have a picture handy, but what I did was wrap the strap once around everything, feed the end through the slotted pin and take up the majority of the slack, then use a screwdriver on the eye of the pin to snug it up, maybe about 1 to 1.5 turns worth. Then cut off the excess. Not on the road yet, but its holding so far and I think looks presentable.

Thanks Randy. Sometimes the seemingly simple items perplex me. This looks like a good approach to fastening the brake lines.

Same one I used Pat and it seemed to work just fine.
I'm right up there with you on the simple items being perplexing. Mostly I tend to over engineer the simple and make it complex, sigh. My wife reminds me about over engineering on a regular basis. The worst thing about it is that she's right 9 out of 10 times. Course that's one of the reasons I married her, heh.

Cheers, Tinkerman

My experience with those tie downs was problematic also. I ordered three of the ones that Moss sells and was disappointed with the quality. They looked thin and like they were made out of some cheap scrap kinked sheet metal. I took the old stock ones and glass beaded them and painted them silver. Unwrapping them a little more than half way and painting them was a little tricky, but I just stayed with it. I thought putting them back on would be next to impossible also, but it work out without too much trouble. In addition, they do make a tie down out of stainless steel that will work nicely. You can find them in most electrical stores.
