strange measurement request

Could someone measure their 1275 dipstick for me... Okay, waiting for the jokes.... I need the measurement from where the stick rests on the plastic tube to the end that is in the oil. I would also like a measurement from the the resting point to the top of the max fill notch and the low fill notch. Does that make sense?

I need to make sure that I am using the correct dip stick.

Measuring a couple close at hand I come up with an overall length of 9-1/2" from the metal "ring" to the tip. From the metal ring to the full line or notch (depending on year) it's 7-13/16". The fill line is 8-5/8" from the metal ring. Measuring With the rubber ring it's approx 5/32" less.

Is a 1098 different? I've got mine on the workbench if you need specs.

Here ya go:

1. from where the stick rests on the plastic tube to the end that is in the oil....9-1/2"

2. from the the resting point to the top of the max fill notch....7-7/8"

3. and the low fill notch....8-11/16"

those are measurements 'metal-to-metal' since the dipstick doesn't need a rubber gasket if its a straight dipstick like mine.....if a bent dipstick, then the rubber gasket is needed.

I had a chance to measure the stick and I am getting the same readings. Thanks fellas!! I put the proper amount of oil in that the book says and it is reading a lot higher on the stick than it should. Always has...

I wonder if that is why she has such a bad leak from the front of the motor?

I just put a new timing cover gasket on my engine (again). I think the flexing of the front plate is causing it to leak, because otherwise everything seems flat and true.

Hap told me that the rubber seal that goes around the harmonic balancer leaks unless it is put on exactly straight--due to a wobbling affect of the rubber. I think that it is leaking from this area but have not had a chance to pull the rad to see.

If John-Peter can't get to it, I'll take all the stuff off my 1500 Midget & make a measurement...I use the front of my 1500 as a storage shelf (I hate that car!)

I just don't like that engine...unlike my MGB's with the Stromberg set-up, I can really 'feel' the difference in power between it & my '74 Midget....so, I just stack boxes of upholstery, panels, & carpet on its front fenders....& it even has a factory hardtop!

I have a 1500 mg midget engine.

I am not just looking for the length of the dipstick, but the length of the dipstick tube. I am wondering if I have the right dipstick and dipstick tube since when I fill up the engine with oil, the mark on the dipstick is not at the full range (rather it is above the full range)

Need dimension of the dipstick cap opening to the end of the dipstick (Dimensions "A", see attached picture).

Need dimension of the dipstick tube from the end of the tube to the engine (Dimensions "B", see attached picture).

Well, neither of those in the photos are a 948 or 1098 dipstick or dipstick tube!

Drain it, put in what the good book recommends and take a file and mark your dip stick.
