Signa Red in Spray Can???

Ted at TSI is working hard on my motor lower end and I have found a machine shop here in Houston that does TR heads. A week from Saturday a member of the local TR club is going to help me pull the engine and trans out of the TR3A. While the engine is out I'm going to put in the rack and pinion steering and would like to clean up the engine compartment before I drop in the new engine with Toyota conversion.

Does anyone know where I can get some cans of Signal Red or where to buy the paint to get the correct color. My car looks great, but it looks like the engine compartment has not been touched since it was built.

I love progress, my wife is always wondering how much I'm spending...

This may not work at all for you, but I've found that there are many variants of what people have called signal red for their Triumphs. In my case, I went to Pep Boys and bought a couple of different cans of red - I found that 'Flash Red' was an excellent match for what I had on my TR4.

I've used www.towerpaint.com, if you know the color code of your car, they can make up touchup paint and spray cans.

I took my spare tire cover to the auto (paint) store and they scanned it into their computer and made up a batch of custom paint for me. I have my own sprayer but they can also make a spray can or your could use can use a Prevall sprayer to apply. Turns out, my Signal Red variation matched closely to a Honda somethingorother.

I've been going to my local auto paint store for about 15 years for paint. They used to just go with the code for the car and now they can also scan. Normally they require a minimum of a pint and they'll fill that into spray cans, 4 oz per can. I normally get 2-3 cans and leave some in the can for brush touch ups as needed. Last time it cost about $50.

Almost any paint place can have paint put into rattle cans for you. Most send out paint once per week.

As I remember there's a paint place one block off Bissonet about three blocks outside the loop, and they should be able to do it.

But I agree that the best course of action is just to hit Pep Boys with your spare tire locker cover and buy the two closest cans. You'll be surprised at how close you can come with pre-made. I used two cans to layer where brake fluid spilled in my bay, and so far nobody has noticed the slight blend.

By the way, you're in good hands with the fellas in the Texas Triumph Register. I was a member for a couple years when I lived in Houston. Some really great cars there, and the core group of people really know their way around TRs.
