Removing Antenna??

I'm preparing my 64B for paint and need to remove the antenna. I unscrewed the top ring and it will drop to inside the right fender but I can only find the cable coming through a hole under the dash. How does one remove the antenna completely? (I actually want to replace it after painting.)

Not sure what kind you have, but it has to come out from the top. Usually, once you remove the retaining nut fixture, and the antenna base is loose inside the car, you should be able to reach a finger or two into the hole and swivel the base to a vertical state, in order to be able to pull it out.

(May take a little maneuvering, or may take a shot of PB Blaster or other lubricant on the base, if the "swivel" is stuck.)

Good luck!

If the antenna is in the front fender, drop it down in the hole, remove the rain shield up inside the wheel well & take the antenna out...you'll have to fish the cable out the hole it goes through to get to the radio....you wanna remove those 2 panels anyway to clean out the inside of the fender occassionally....I always put 3 small washers between the fender and the rocker - those 3 tiny bolts that hold the bottom of the fender to the rocker...then, water can work its way out & doesn't get trapped next to the rocker creating rust...

On my Midget, the cable simply plugged into the back of the radio. I just pulled the console out a bit and unplugged the cable and drew it back out of the fender. May want to use some sort of "fish line" so's you can thread the cable back through.

What Tony said. Glad to know about your little trick to let the water on through, Tony. There are about 6 7/16 inch bolts up in there. The bottom screw on mine wouldn't come out easily so I just took off the wheel and the bolts and leaned the panel forward

Thanks Guys, got it out. It came out thru the top hole. I poked a small screw driver in and discovered the little arms do tilt. Trick was getting them both tilted at the same time to pull it out. Tony, I heed your advice on inopsecting the whell well panel and the spacers. Thanks.

Carl...remove the front wheel, look up in the fender well...you'll see a panel held by a few 7/16" bolts...remove them & take the panel out...shine a flashlight up in there....then, get your shop vac out & clean it...if you really want to clean it out, remove the 3 little bolts along the bottom of the fender & spray water up in the well...then when you put the little bolts back in place, put a washer between the fender & the rocker so there's a little space where water can escape
