What is the correct bulb for the rear turn signal on a late TR-3A. Outer lights are running and brake. Small round inners are turn (at least that is how I am going to wire it). I bought new assemblies from Moss but they did not come with bulbs and I discarded my old suff. Thanks. PS-I do NOT want LED.

The turn signal bulb is an 1157 single filament.
You may want to consider LED for brake/running lights, strictly as a safety concern. You will be visible.
I'm just saying ...

Strictly speaking, they should be Lucas 380 bulbs. 1157 will work fine, but draw a bit more power than the originals (26.7 watts instead of 21). 2357 draws just a bit more power than 1157 (28.2 instead of 26.7), but will be some 25% brighter. They don't last as long, though.

You're quite right, the round inner lamps were originally turn signals; the kind of tear drop shaped outers were brake and tail. If I was doing it again, I might add the circuit to make them all function as both brake and turn; but of course that wouldn't be original and would be bound to get you talked about

What I found was the 1157 is a two filament bulb. The 1156 is single filament and slightly less wattage which is OK with me since I rarely have any of my old cars out at night. Randall as to talking about my car not being "correct" I left that several alterations ago. I have 3 TR-3s. Two original and then this latest project. Mustang II front end, IDIDIT steering column, Currie four link rear with posi, Chevy small block 350, GM 200-R4 automatic tranny, huge fiberglass rear fenders to accommodate 225/55/16 Goodyear Eagles on wide Dayton wire wheels. BUT from all apprearances it lo0ks like a standard TR-3. Back to the topic of electric it also has a HOTWIRE wiring harness.

Sorry, I misread the question. My bad.

You are quite right, the 1157 (and 2357) are dual filament bulbs, suitable only for the front turn/marker lights and the rear brake/tail lights. 1156 will do for the stock turn signals (assuming someone hasn't changed the sockets to take 2357). Or if you want a bit more light output, 2396.

But you asked for "correct" rather than "what fits"

PS the 1156 should be exactly the same brightness/wattage (they aren't necessarily the same thing) as the bright filament of the 1157.

PPS, Why not LED, since what you have is no longer a TR3 anyway?

My bad :wink-new:. I just included a spare filament.

BTW I use an LED cluster for running and brake lights.
Very bright and not directional. It's a good thing.
