'Nother Dreaded Sound Deadening Question

It looks pretty nice Don, but I wonder how pliable it is?

B-Quiet, huh? I can think of several occasions where I would have liked to use it here.

The application instructions indiccate that using a heat gun or hair dryer is not required but they don't really confirm how pliable it is.

"Heating B-Quiet Extreme (with a heat gun or hair-dryer) before applying is not required as is the case with many other deadeners. As long as it is applied at or above room temperature, it will form a very strong bond.

Peel the paper backing off, and slowly lay the material down inch by inch. Take your time and slowly push the material into the contours of the panels."

Don, if you do get some we want a report. I like Dynamat but this stuff appears to have advantage in both application and cost.

Hi Don - I think most of these are fairly similar. I've used a couple types, driven by cost and what they had on hand, and they all seem to work OK.

I am fond of the aluminum skinned ones, they just look cool.

Ken - no real smell from them even in the summer.

asphalt ? I wonder what it'll smell like in the Summer.

I suspect this is a roof flashing product for a modified bitumen system. Several manufacturers use the aluminum cover.

Prolly have to get it really hot and/or puncture the plastic wrapper to smell the asphalt.

Hey; Here in Vermont we weave our own mats from Hemp, or is it that other related plant?
Anyway...the advantage of using this product around engines, and exhaust pipes is when it heats up it gives off a VERY, VERY calming vapor or smoke. Sometimes you don't even have to be going any where. Just sit in the car with the engine running, and all your cares (and maybe some brain cells) just melt away. Safety note:(always open the garage door first).

Guys - be aware I am having a rare bout of sincerity here - that product will not produce ANY smell when on a floor board. None.

If you are thinking of using it on the TR6 or TR7/8 Don go for it, it will make a surprisingly big positive difference in how solid the car feels.

The big question is whether or not you can use it to stop the plastic rattles in the dash....

Mine never did until I put the top up. Another good reason to leave it down. I think I know what is loose and I'll fix it when a have a few minutes to play with it.

Yes, good article.

But it drove home the realization that I would NEVER make it as a researcher! Don't have that kind of attention span!

hmmm - help me out here ... my brain is unusually frazzled this morning.

With all the comparisons (heat, cold, etc.) he did, where in that Deadener Comparison article does he actually compare how well they dampen sound?

Thanks.
Tom
