New Master cylinder that went bad

ok after tons of work trying to bleed my brake system, and never succeeding, and asking for all kinds of advice on this forum..(I was starting to feel like a nicompop!)

I finally had an old freind, a MG mechanic make a house call.
after tracing everything for a few hours, we pulled off he brand new replacement part Master cylinder, bench tested and it did not perform as expected.


so, had to order new MC, (upgraded this time) and after doing new lines and what not, bled the system today and all is fine..

MoraL Use genuine parts as much as possible...considering I lost about 8 weeks of dicking around and never mind the $$ to have a mechanic do a house call...

Had you checked the pushrod travel at the slave cylinder, and determined how far it was being actuated when pressing the clutch pedal? What tipped the mechanic off that it was the master cylinder and not the clutch?

I believe, when on the bench, when you push the cylinder in then block off the brake line hose output, the piston should stay intact, and it slipped back.. or is it just the opposite..

whatever, as soon as I put in another master cylinder...

I had absolutely no problem, and six weeks of work and tracing the problem was solved immediately...

I must have gone through about $70.00 worth of castrol alone trying to resolve this problem..
