Hey Guys
I need to plan my fuel line replacement while the tub is off the frame. I have a couple questions:

1) Has anyone installed an electric fuel pump under the fuel tank? If so, can you tell me where it was mounted (on frame? On tub? Location? And how did you plumb this up? And do you like this set up? My stock fuel pump was rebuilt and works great.

2) Do you guys think it is safe to use short lengths of flexible fuel line coupled with hard pipe under tank or should hard pipe be bent to fit?

3) I don't have a fuel shut off valve in my engine compartment. Car didn't come with one. Should I replace with a mini ball valve for shutoff, or simply terminate the hard pipe into flex pipe and connect to engine-mounted fuel pump? I am not married to the original brass fuel valve and don't really want to purchase a reproduction.

IMO using flex lines at the rear would be OK. Later cars did as original. Just don't forget to replace them every decade or so and don't forget that the axle moves up and down (so locate the lines where they cannot rub). Also keep it up high, so less likely to tangle with rocks and debris thrown up.

The stock pump suits me fine. Overall, I'd have to say it is at least as reliable as electric pumps. I do carry an electric pump as an emergency spare for the stock mechanical pump but I have never needed to use it for that. (It's handy for other things, like loaning someone some fuel on a caravan, or emptying the tank for service.)

I'm surprised your TR3A didn't come with a shutoff valve; TS39781LO had one. Personally I would want to add one if I had a later car that didn't have it, but it's not that big a deal to live without. Just be sure you run the tank down fairly low before servicing the sediment bowl and park on a hill.

Be sure the valve you get can flow enough fuel and is rated for use with gasohol.
