MOSS solid state fuel pump

I just purchased this item to install in my Midget. The only paper in the package was a 1/2 sheet of supplemental instructions regarding positive / negative grounding. It does reference a set of instructions containing steps #1 - #12, but these were missing. I had MOSS send the missing instructions, but what they sent was a copy of the supplement.

Can anyone provide a copy (or summary) of the missing instructions? Are there any tricks that I should be aware of? What is the best way to cut the pump into the fuel line, with out setting anything on fire? What is the best way to seal the threads on the pump inlet / outlet? Is there a preferred location for mounting the fuel pump?

There are two lines attached to the tank, on the side facing forward. I assume that the line that I need to put the pump into (the line that feeds the carb) is the lower line.

Is this the 377-420? If so, that's just a Facet pump. My first suggestion is to return it to Moss and get one from JC Whitney, where the price will be literally half that of Moss and customer service has a clue. In any case--I have to confess I'm going from memory here--it should be mounted near the fuel tank, outlet end up, and for some reason they recommend it be at a 45-degree angle. Needs a fuel filter at the input. The ideal place is the wall in front of the rear axle. Keep it low on the wall, but don't let the fuel line droop down where it could snag on something--I guess most of this is obvious. Electrical connection is just from the switched power to the pump. Ground the black wire if you have a negative ground system; otherwise, the red. You'll need to run a wire from the front of the car to the rear; be sure this doesn't dangle or chafe anywhere. You should use a fuse in the electrical line. 5 amps is perfect.

Thanks for the info. Yes, it is the 377-420. Unfortunately, I bought it from a 'distributor' in Tucson. While the initial trip was otherwise required, a return trip would cost most of what I would save at JC Whitney. The advantage of the 377-420 is that I had access to people who had confidence that it would work with a Webber on an MG. When I bought my B in 1985, with a 'new and better' fuel pump, I had never heard of excess fuel pressure. It took a while to figure that one out.

Bob, I just put one of these Moss pumps on my car. Not much to it, but I would recommend some Permatex #2 or teflon tape on the pipe nipple threads, because when I put it together it leaked. The other folks here suggested those. I ended up mounting mine just in front of the gas tank, and ran a wire from the fuse box after finding the fuse that was switched with the ignition.
