Mileage

I'm past the brake in of the new motor. I've got the bonnet on the car and can't hear the SC as much. This next couple gas tanks I'm going to check the mileage. Anyone care to guess. Five speed, 3.9 rear end. Probably be some interstate driving, but I'm going to drive as economically(could be an oxymoron) as possible. I've gpsed the speedo, so I'm pretty sure my mileage is correct.

Oh, around 30 till you get 10K on the engine then 35 or so.

I'm going to say 29. Do you have a boost gauge?

Depends on the goodies, or lack thereof, that you've put into the engine rebuild. If it's a bone stock engine and you drive conservatively, I'd bet you'll average somewhere near 30 MPG.

Just a guess though, based on LBCs with similar engines.

My engine (in the current state of tune) runs too rich when the boost is on above 4500 rpms. So, if you do not need the choke much and you don't do a bunch of hard acceleration, you should keep decent mileage. My problem is keeping my foot from stomping on the accelerator in 2nd gear and letting it wind out ... too much fun!

28 MPG freeway cruising with a turbocharged 1275 and 5-speed.

People often ask what kind of mileage I get in the Sprite. My stock answer is "28MPG freeway cruising, but I can get it as low as 20 if I try really hard. If you're driving a Sprite today for its gas mileage, you're missing a lot of fun.

Did a 49 MPG run from Atlanta to Iowa City one time with my Bugeye that was preaty well modified. It would run with stock 1275s, so all things are possible.

Yes, I do have a boost gauge, and no, I can hardly keep my foot out of it. Kent tells me that I have what he would call a 1 and 1/2 stage cam his cam guy made for it and street gas. The motor has been line bored, balanced, the head has been ported and polished, Kent spent 25 hours on the motor. Anyway, tomorrow I'm off to Lawrence to help my buddy with his projects, it'll be a good day.
