Just finished painting dash, glove box door and vent grilles with Duplicolour wrinkle paint. Didn’t have oven big enough to put the dash in so used heat gun and slowly moved along as it dried took a while but happy with the result now for putting it all back together.I also used Duplicolour vinyl and plastic paint on dash Pad, centre consul and side covers they came up really well.

Looks really good, Chris. Nice work!

Me mum didn't appreciate me usin' her oven to heat up a flywheel ring-gear back in the sixties, so mebbe it's better the dash didn't fit in the oven. 😉

For the small steel "dots" to indicate where the index on the heater control knobs are set, I used a couple small stainless slot-head screws ground and polished to eliminate the rust issue on 'em. Down here in Florida, the (salty) humidity is hard to beat back. Those steel rivets would look awful in a few weeks.

My wife is in Melbourne hence the dash on the dining room table with the heater on to maintain temperature .
I was wondering what to do about those dots, both have a reasonable surface but the spreader legs are broken so you
have given me a plan thanks.

Does the chrome strip on the glove box come off , it would give a better paint finish if I didn’t have to tape up and spray
Before attacking it I thought I would ask the question

Paul,

It looks across Port Phillip Bay we see Melbourne on a good night . Bought the block in 1972 so it’s about the same age as my B . The Town we live in is called Indented Heads population about 1000 nice and quite and everybody knows each other than can be plus and sometimes a minus . It is about 20 mins from Geelong .
The Boat ramp is about 400 metres away from the house and I like to get out fishing and skin diving with the grand kids
they come down a lot as it is only a 1 3/4 hrs from Melbourne .

Regards
Chris

I know I took that chrome strip off before painting the door, but can't recall for the life of me just how.

The strip is unbent, back in place looking like it should, so it must have been a "non-issue" since I don't recall how I did it. As it was removed before painting I'll assume it was gently pried away with little worry over scarring the old paint, rather being more conscious of twisting or otherwise damaging it.

The chrome strip has spring clips which slot into holes so just a matter of easing it off with small flat screw driver.

Good! Likely the removal didn't stay in memory due to ease of the task.

Nice job - I have always liked the steel dash better than the later plastic fantastic.

Mother's have little patience with our enthusiasms - I caught heck once for melting old fishing weights in a cast iron pan on the stove to pour into moulds to make diving weights. And then there was the time when I was fibreglassing something and had to stop before I finished. I took the remaining already catalyzed resin and put it in the deep freeze - hey, chemical reactions slow with lowered temperatures, right? I failed to foresee that it would also permeate and taint any food in the freezer.....
