MG Midget 1275 oil leak

Just rebuilt a 1275, get 70 psi oil pressure, at 2000 rpm, 40 psi at idle, study oil drop below rear main, will lower pressure help or should I get new seal type kit.from Moss ($ 199)

Welcome to the forum. Only a drop at the time? Lucky you, mine looked like the Exxon Valdez for awhile. Post some pictures of your engine and give some specifics on carb type, routing of lines running from front oil separator, etc. These cars like a little negative crankcase pressure to keep from leaking.

Also ... what did you do about the "brow" piece above the rear main cap? Did you re-position it?
And... did you seal the oil pump cover to the rear engine plate?

Crank case pressure may decrease as the rings seat, but it sounds like something else is wrong.

As is being suggested, there are a number things that need to be handled just right. The half moon piece above the main cap needs to be line honed along with the main caps. It needs to maintain a .002 max clearance to work properly. In addition, it important to make sure that both sides of the oil pump cover are completely sealed, and that there are no fractures in the cast rear mounting plate. If you're sure all that has been addressed correctly, then you must make sure the the engine has a certain amount of negative pressure. The best results are when the original PCV is retained and plumbed property. If you are only getting a drop, chances are you can cure it with the proper ventilation setup.

If all that fails, then your only fallback is the rear seal kit you mention. However, many here will tell you, the Moss one will not cure the problem. I make one that does. If you are interested, you can PM or email me directly for an explanation.

Yes I do. It can be used with or without the 5 speed conversion. It's shown with the 5 speed kit, but I guess I shopuld create a separate page for it. Contact me directly for more details.
