TR6 Looking for a knackered head for a TR6

I need one as cheap as possible - it's going to get destroyed. It's to pass on to the guy who's going to port mine so he can cut it up and get wall thicknesses from it (rather than destroy mine).

Can anyone help me out here. Cracked and useless is fine. I'm happy to pay shipping and make a small contribution.

TIA, Alan

Alan, you HAD to have looked that word up. Knackered, indeed.
At least it seems to have a British flair. I'm impressed.

No head though.

Bill, I am British.

It's in common usage in my vocabulary - and in a the vocabulary of a lot of my co-workers now. They have learned quite a few phrases in the last eight years.

My wife (who is American) can watch BBC America without subtitles now. I'm very proud...

Alana,
You probably want to make sure the casting number and stamped number match the numbers on your head. The wall thickness may vary between different heads.
I think everyone is aware of the narrow port heads that were used from 68 through 71. The '72 head has the wider port spacing. I think it also used the large exhaust valve.
In '73 or '74 the size of the exhaust valve was decreased. I think all of the later heads were stamped as 219019 which is supposed to be the low compression model of the 219016. The 219016 has the reputation of being the best flowing head for the 6 cylinder engine. The low compression models were exported to the US.
Take a look at this link for information about the 219016 and some pictures of a head that has been cut.
https://www.tr6.org/cylheads/index.html
I contacted Chris Witor about the 219016 head. He told me about the 219019.

Oh dear - I wish I hadn't seen those numbers. They are sooo depressing.

My intake manifold runners flow 190cfm. I knew it was overkill, but that really brought it into perspective. I also knew I was at the top end of what the head could do with my goal, even ported, but he's definately going to have to go some to get enough flow out...

I have a 73 head btw. I'd still like another one to sacrifice if anyone can help.

Alan:
I wanted to express an interest in your development of the heads. I don't have a spare head but if you need a manifold, I have a sapre. I hope you will publish your findings.

Alana,
Are you sure you aren't "Knooking for a lackered head" ? either way, probably pretty hard to find.
Sorry.

Hello Alana,

you didn't mention that a knacker is a man that deals in and slaughters old tired horses.

I didn't even think about it when I wrote the title. Its an expression I use so commonly I forgot that it doesn't readily bridge the language gap.

I swear it would have been easier to move to France or Germany. At least then I'd know I was speaking a foreign language. It's amazing how words can have such widely different meanings...

Oh and I'd still like a broken, defunct, tired or useless head - preferably from a 73 - if anyone out there has one and they would like to free up the space.

Alana,

Let me look and see what I have. Have several tr6 engines. To expand this thread, what about GT6 heads? A guy at a speed shop in Memphis had a hopped up TR6 and told me that he was running an early GT6 head. It was like the early TR6 head with bigger valves. Have couple extras of them.

Marv,

Thanks so much for the offer, but I'm looking for a head that mirrors mine. Its so the guy who's going to be doing the refurb/porting on mine (who does mainly crazy turbo'd Toyotas for a living but who did my new intake manifold) can get the wall thicknesses from that, rather than finding out the hard way that there isn't enough material at a specific point when he's cutting into mine.

To do this he'll likely have to cut it into pieces rendering it useless. That's why I'm looking for one that's already cracked or otherwise defunct.
