Last month's Pic of the Month again

Here's my last month's picture of the month recycled here for no good reason other than pure vanity.

This is an original Snowmobile, built using one of the Model T Snowmobile kits developed and made in New Hampshire. I don't remember which town it was used in, but it was in fact used for mail delivery. Then as now, mail carriers used their own vehicles on rural routes (around here, anyway).

These were popular in northern New England, upstate New York, Minnesota, and other snowbelt areas. I haven't ridden in this one but have in others - quite an experience and lots of fun.

Wow!

We grew up in an "RD2" area with nasty winters but I've never seen a carrier in anything like THAT. Our "mailman" had a Willys with a home-made RHD rig'd up.

The wheels are there for trailering. They generally aren't used on snow.

Re the bodywork - typical of some of the coachbuilders in our area.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Neat picture! They have a couple very similar to that up in the Reynolds muesum in northern Alberta.

Can't see why it wouldnt work with the wheels AND skids, the wheels being so skinny and all, they would help prevent side-slipping of the skis and wouldn't hurt forward motion much!

You could drive that out onto the ice and have your ice-fishing shack right there with you...all it needs is that little out-house chimney!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
