I'm sure that this has been addressed somewhere in here but I couldn't find the thread. I want to put a Monza exhaust under my 71 Spit. I'm not looking for anything but "music." Has anyone done this on a Spit and should I be looking for anything special? Are there any problems to be overcome in doing such?

I'm not familiar with the Monza on a Spitfire, but I had one on a TR6. The sound was good, but I was disappointed with the durability. I drove my car 5-6000 miles a year and it lasted maybe 4 years before it rusted out.
I replaced it with a Falcon SS system, which also has a good sound, and should last for many more years. I've already had it for over 10 . It's more money, but pays for itself over time.

Thanks for the input. I'll look into it. I probably won't drive over 1000 a year but they can also rust out just sitting.

That is exactly what rust them out. they don't get a chance to burn off the moisture.

Depends on how much noise you can handle. My ears are old and the Monzas were great for about 2000 miles. After that, I couldn't take the racket any more. Falcons are much more melodic.

Put a Falcon on the TR3 in 1985. I think the label is starting to burn off, other than that & some soot in the tail pipe it looks & sounds about the same as when I installed it.

Where would I look for the Falcon? Also, is the hook up pretty straight forward. I'm not a "rather work on it than drive it" kind of guy. I must generaly don't fix something till it's broke. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif I can turn a wrench with the best, I just choose not too unless I have to.

I think I'm through doing exhaust systems... last time left me, well, exhausted.

You might enquire at a local muffler shop if they would install for you. Their lifts, cutoff tools and general knowledge vs you lying on your back with old tail pipe bits falling in your eyes, knuckles bleeding, etc.

Good point. Skinned Knuckles aren't as much fun as they used to be.

Had a Monza once on a '74 Spitfire. Hated the noise, hated the fumes when the top was down, and hated the lack of durability. But that's just me.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
