Heater Boost Switch

The 'switch' that turns the fan on in my '66 BJ8 does not stay on when i let go of the switch. The fan stays on as long as I am pulling the switch out but as soon as I let the switch go, it goes off.

Is the switch supposed to stay engaged?

Yes--perhaps you can clean the contacts.

HI Dave, yes there is a little sliding lock affair on the switch lever that holds the switch out and it must be pushed back in with a bit of force.I don't remember if it is fixable or not.--Fwiw---Keoke

Thanks, I think I'll figure out how to take the dash apart and look over the lever mechanism. Now that I know it should stay engaged, I know something isn't working properly.

Thanks.

Another problem may be the black plastic assembly that holds everything. If you, or anyone else, have replaced the original with a new one the clearances somtimes prevent the switch being pulled out far enough to engage the locking system. This is personal experience talking here!!!

I think it's original. I managed to "clean" most of the white printing off, so I bought a 'replacement' from a place called NOS locators. It's pretty plastic looking, so I'm going to keep the original until I can find something more authentic.

Thanks for the heads up!

HI Dar100,just go to a model train store they have decals that will match the original lettering on the heater control panel.Take the new one with you to match it up.Clean the old original one up good and using a rattle can spray it a pretty black. When dry make up the decal using the instructions provided, install it and you are good to go.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

OH!, on rare occasions those people actually have NOS Parts. However, most of the time their parts are from China Via Taiwan--- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey Thanks Keoke, I'm done with NOS locators, can't hardly get them to return e-mails. I'll head to the hobby shop sometime this summer. Anyone need a plastic trinket that resembles a heater panel???
