Lavant Straight and generally doing it in style.

The greatest automotive event I ever went to was The Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2003. The weather however was unusually hot that year and I had many Pimms cups while there for 3 days.........good times.
I was soon amazed at how close the crowd could get to the cars racing up the hill. A single hay bail separating you from F1 cars at speed, WOW! I was also in the right place at the right time and had an enjoyable chat with Sir Sterling Moss and his wife, very nice people. The Rivival's next on my list.

I am headed to Revival for the first time and about to buy my tickets on line. Is it possible to enjoy the day without purchasing grandstand tickets? I am bringing my family and at $200/seat it is a little more than I planned.

I didn't have grandstand tickets and I'm glad I didn't. For the Festival of Speed there is just too much going on to sit still. I mean there's everything you could want as a car fanatic and more. The revival could be a little different based on the races and track. My thought is that there is enough area to watch the races without being in the stands.

Thank you Doug. I was hoping that was the case. I am looking forward to Goodwood. It has been on my must-do list for at least a decade. Now I can start to worry about what to wear...(period correct?).

Entrance only will set you back the equivalent of £30 Friday, £47 Saturday or Sunday and for the three days - £99

Not sure how you can get into the paddock for a close up look at the cars, as I am a member I can get a paddock pass, but if you can not blag your way in, you can walk around the perimeter of the paddock and look at the cars from there plus there are cars outside the paddock area because the event is so big. Most people view from the outside of the track and you can walk or hitch a ride on one of the passing tractor 'n trailers that circulate and go right the way around. there are viewing places on the infield on thy Lavant straight.

Thank you for the insight. I did have to look up "blag". The definition I settled on was ""talking at length and with authority about something you don't know anything about." That seems to fit me perfectly. I'll assume that is what you intended

I suspect that if I can't blag my way in, there is still plenty to enjoy. I can't wait to go!

You might try this "Blag" tactic...Talk to the editor of your local newspaper, could be a weekly, and tell them that you are going to Goodwood (build it up...show the clip) and that you would like to give them an exclusive (pictures and story line) for the Local Interest section. If they are interested, you'll need American Press credentials along with the others in your party. Then you'll have to deliver, but your inside.

Give it a try. It doesn't cost them anything. They may say "Yes" Exclusive, no other local paper will have the story and they might tie in some advertisment from local Foreign Auto services firms...incremental $$$
