TR2/3/3A Distributor... going back to points.

I'm switching back to points and condensor. The PO made the swap to Pertronix.
Is the original mounting plate under the Pertronix plate or was a part removed with the original points.

That's right. You should be able to pull the pertronix and reinstall the points and condenser. You will need a new terminal for the primary lead as that has probably been removed.

This is generally true, and was the case with my 4A. However, I have heard that some earlier cars required midification of the mounting plate, which I have never been able to confirm. Hopefully yours was not modified, as they seem to be hard to come by.

Curious on a few points (sorry, no pun intended): 1. Is your car positive or negative ground? 2. Why are you switching back? 3. Do you plan to hang onto the Pertronix? (Most folks hang onto the points in case the electronic ignitions fail, but it could work both ways. :D )

Thanks for the responses. Mystery solved.

I was able to find a set of Lucas points locally. The original plate was under the Pertronix adapter plate, unaltered. I had to make a new positive lead to the coil, but other than that it was a simple swap.

Pertronix will send me an exchange sensor, but not until they receive mine. I drive my car daily and I didn't want to wait. I also don't want to be left high and dry again. I might be willing to go back to the Pertronix if I could carry a spare. Problem is, a spare cost nearly $80. I have no problem maintaining points and I can carry an extra set for $15. I'll stay with the points.

The PO left the car positive ground. I converted to negative. If anyone wants my new sensor, I'll gladly sell it, complete with adapter and magnet for a fair price.

Don't think about carrying a spare Ignitor module. Now that you know how to switch from Pertronix to points, carry spare points, condenser, and that new wire you made. If you experience a Pertronix failure while driving you can go back to points while on the side of the road. Some people carry a set of feeler gauges as well to set the points accurately but you can often improvise for that.
