Dash panel color scheme 1960 3000

Friend is doing a restoration on a 1960 Healey 3000. Red body, OEW coves. Early 3000 with drum brakes.

What is the dash face color scheme for this car?

1. Color of the dash panel?
2. Color of the instrument panel within the oval outline?
3. Was material used within the oval area, outside that area or the entire dash panel?
4. If material, what was it and was it padded in any areas?
5. What color was the padded dash top?

Roger, I have a 1960 BT7 that I've owned since 1963. The original car was white over black coves with red interior piped in white. The dash was completely covered in red vinyl-like material, the same material used on the door panels, seat backs and other places except the seat faces which were leather. There was no padding between the metal dash and the material, it was just glued on to the metal. The vinyl was installed in one piece across the entire dash front and then the chrome oval piece was installed over the material. The dash top did have some thin foam padding under it. I'd guess about 1/4" thick and was covered by the same red vinyl as the rest of the car. There is a short piece of white piping at each end of the dash top. Also the bottom lip of dash itself was finished with red furflex (I think that's what you call the fuzzy trim) just like the doors except it didn't have any rubber seal like the door trim. I think this is the way all the cars were done from the 100-6 to the BJ7. Only you elite guys with BJ8's get the walnut dash.

BTW, I thought all 3000's came with discs up front.

I'll pass this information forward.
Good catch about discs up front. My research finds that in March of 1959, the 3000 model was introduced and came with disc brakes up front. Person who is restoring most likely meant the rear wheels had drums.
I think the only cars that got disc brakes on the rear were on the Works Rally Healeys.

Roger, As you know, I didn't get a walnut dash. But I do have a stunning looking walnut steering wheel.....

The colour scheme of Red with white coves did not exist as a factory option. Special orders were possible but most likely some previous owner has painted the coves white. Red cars could have black interiors or red interiors, you would need to get the Heritage certificate to confirm which one this car had.

Red 100-Six and early 3000s also may have come with a "grey" interior with red piping. In reality it was more of an off-white. Bob Pense

My 62 BT-7 was red with red also. The dash was covered with red vinyl also, just like Robs car. I am doing Red with Olde English White coves also. I'm doing a Works style car and not worried about concours.

On the 100-6, rear disc brakes were an option that anyone could buy, although most didn't.
