Bugeye front frame rails

I know this has to be simple, but I can't remember what goes in the single threaded hole on the bottom of the frame rail, about 2" from the front.

Bonnet safety catch? Not for nothin' but did anyone in the history of bugeyes ever have a bonnet fly up because they didn't have a safety catch?

And how about the belt and suspenders to hold up the bonnet....i.e. two side supports + a prop rod. I was told that the prop rod should be used in case an up draft forces the bonnet upward, unlatching it, and it would come crashing down. Now really, what is the chance of that!!!

I've had that happening to me. Wind in my part of the world is a part of life. The kind of supports on the bugeye unlatch quite regularly in gusty conditions.

One of my Sprites also shows unmistakable damage due to rear hinged hood flying up. Given the amount of damage it was probably while in motion, not from wind. Going to be a fun time to repair properly.

I just assumed these were vestigial fittings used to tie the vehicle down during manufacturer to a jig, or during transport. For long time I thought they were part of the bumper mounting because neither of mine came with a bumper and it was years before I saw a bugeye with a bumper installed. If someone can tell us what they are for I'll have learned something.

The two holes in the bottom of the front frame, one of which Rut has a bolt in hold the sway bar rubber mounting bracket. Check the parts book for details, I have one but have never installed it.

Woops, looked at that again, the holes for the sway bar are behind the bolt Rut shows. Going to go look tomorrow.
