when i bought the car it had a very large fuel cell in the trunk. i replaced that with a new healey tank and straps. i also relocated a 12 volt battery to the trunk as well. what did healey use in the two seater cars to give this area a more finished look? and, did they use some sort of fiber board or plywood to cover the fuel tank? if someone has a pic of their two seater trunk i would appreciate that very much. pictured is my trunk...59 bn6 nasty boy!!

Duane,

I see you too have one of the geared scissor jacks (I have 2). Bought the first years ago for my BJ8, then bought another off eBay when I put a real spare in my Mustang (instead of the stoopid fix-a-flat canister Ford provided). Wanted to buy another for the BN2, but could only find them from outfits in Australia (ended up getting an electric scissor jack for the Mustang's boot--works a treat). No advice or anything, just wanted to rant that such a useful tool is NLA in the States last I checked.

Duane--

How nice! I always liked the appearance of the later cars' boots as compared to that of the100 which lacks a plywood underlay and has the armacord loose-laid directly over the tank with the outer pockets open and uncovered. Since my armacord is up for replacement I am going to explore putting in a plywood floor, possibly even with some folding hatches to the small areas which do provide neat storage.

BTW I too carry a scissor jack--definitely better than the Shelly which sits, along with a full roll of original tools, under lock and key in an undisclosed location.

so the 100-6 did not have a plywood floor so to speak? just a loose piece of carpet. i like the plywood covered trunk in the picture. does anyone know where i can buy the healey material to cover the plywood?

Nice kit--would love to have that 'speed wrench' handle--but have you tried to jack the car with that? It can be done, but the geared scissor jack is vastly superior (how much does your Porsche weigh?).

Don't have that jack (don't have a Porsche either). Boxster weight is around 2800 pounds, more than a Healey. Frankly, I have a cell phone and AAA plus. I get a flat and I'm calling for a flatbed.

The BN6/BN7 have the liner kit as shown in Duane's pix above. I assume the plywood comes as part of it (BN6/7 only). Moss sells these as the Trunk Liner Kit on the "Weather Equipment" page.
I assume because I have the plywood and must have ordered it from Moss around 15 years ago - best verify with them.
PS - I radiused the plywood to the right of the gas tank filler pipe so the flooring could be easily removed.

Another BN6/7 hint is to move the cutoff switch mounts forward with standoffs such that the jack trap door on the left will work. The replacement switches have a too-long stem and the knob interferes with the trap door.

The kit for covering the boot area can be found on eBay and is reasonably priced. It is listed as Armacord.

Basically you now have the same boot as the BJ8 . Other than the spare location .
I just cut a piece of 5/16" plywood to fit over the fuel tank as the wells either side of the tank have pieces of armacord that fit/fill them in .

I'm confused ... did any of the cars come with a plywood sheet over the tank? Neither my BJ8--mostly pristine when I bought it at 64K miles--or our BN2--in rougher shape but mostly intact--had anything other than the Armacord covering over the tank.

Probably you can have the same (Easy) result wit a large piece of bit thick cardboard piece (flat Tv box was right for me)

Thanks, Derek (guess the BMC beancounters figured they could save a couple pounds/car scrapping the plywood). I always thought it was odd that you could toss a spare tire (BJ8), a jack, a knockoff hammer, etc. on top of a sheet metal fuel tank, but I've not seen any damage attributable to this on my cars.
