BJ8 Tachometer problem

I am running out of ideas on a possible solution sooo... I have a Crane XR 700 electronic ignition and the stock electrical tach. The tach worked fine until I installed a new dash at which time I had to remove everything to install the dash. Now when i start the car the tach needle goes to 1500 rpms and stays there. No meeter movement off of 1500 until I shut the engine off. Have double and triple checked all the wiring and everything seems to be fine unless I am missing something. Anybody have any ideas of what might be the problem?

Which way do you have the white wire looping on the back of the tach? Here is a photo of how mine was threaded when the car was positive grounded. For negative ground, it would loop the other way.

I have a question regarding the white plastic piece that is secured with the small thumb screw on the back of the tach.
I there also some type of metal clip that fits under the white piece and connects the two metal tabs that stick out of the backof the tach.
Or does the white piece just screw on the back treaded stud.
I am finally geting my BJ8 back together after 6 + years of restoration.
I started it for the first time in mabe 8 yrs just 2 days ago and the tach is not working.
Motor sounds good so there is much excitment

There should be a metal piece that goes over the white plastic piece and fits into the slots. It's a squared-off, u-shaped thing held in place by the thumb screw. If you Google "healey tachometer" and then select images, when you scroll down there are a few pictures of the back of a tach. Good luck, Bob

BCS has the small "U" shaped metal piece. It's called "Tach Pulse Clip" and is $12.85, PN is BCS 299 A and I think you need a small brass hex nut to go with it, $2.05, PN BCS 299 B.
