Big Healey carpets

Hi folks

Has anyone out there bought carpet kits from Chart One Automotive? It's apparently a Brit firm with a parent office in Texas I believe. I've seen their auctions on eBay, and for just over $200 they advertise a high quality hessian (jute) backed and edge-bound full carpet kit for Big Healeys. I was going to cut my own and leave it unbound as in the original. But for this price, is it worth the trouble? Does anyone know if this is a decent kit in terms of quality and fit? I was also considering a kit from Heritage Carpets, but the price is steep, altho I understand their product is outstanding. Any other ideas are welcome.

If you are considering Heritage, check out Dave Gallagher at Phoenix Upholstery. He did Healeys for Heritage for many years, his work is excellent.

Hey Dave,
I just finished putting in a Heritage carpet set in my 54 BN1 and very pleased
with the quality of their product. You can get wilton wool, karvel or their
own brand - what I bought - and far superior to what I have bought in the past
from Moss. Their brand even has the corn row appearance like the original
karvel. I think they have a 20 or 25 % off sale going on now which is what
I was able to use and got the cost down to the price of a Moss set. I've seen
the ads for Chart One on ebay. Maybe they can send you a sample ? You can
get samples from Heritage too.

My thanks to all who took the time to respond to my query. I did check out the Phoenix Upholstery site, and the work looks to be top of the line. Heritage Trim sent me samples some time ago, and it too was top quality, including their house line. Unfortunately their winter sale ended last month. But I guess it all come down to cost - up here in the Great white North, we tack on 20% to any US order, By the time it's shipped, and duty is paid, the cost is doubled. Not complaining, just a reality, and I'm trying to keep three of these British mutts on the road....

Don't know if it makes any difference, but Phoenix actually is in Canada - might be worth giving him a call and talking to him.

Could be true - it took Dave quite a while to fill my carpet order last summer, but his father had passed away over in England, and he was traveling back and forth quite a lot. That may have had something to do with it.

I didn't notice that Phoenix Upholstery was in Canada. I should have seen the .ca in their URL, but then again Homer Simpson and I share the same brain. Any how, thanks - I sent off an email to them for pricing.

Incidentally, what I've noticed in a number of uploaded shots of interiors of members' Healeys is the attention to detail in wiring, heat proofing, etc.,etc. Quite impressive but it takes a lot of time. Are you guys all divorced and living in your garage? I've had one of my Healeys for almost 30 years and it's still waiting for me to fit the new tonneau that I bought 10 years ago.
I often thought the perfect gift for a Healey enthusiast was a set of chromed axle stands for those "temporary" layups that seem to last forever...
