TR4/4A Alloy Valve cover: STUD SPECIFICATION - need help!!!

I went to replace the stock valve cover with one of the fancy-schmancy alloy ones available (I actually got mine from Ted at TSI, but think it's the same one Moss sells also).

anyway, the OEM valve cover studs are too short to clear the top of the new valve cover.

Does anyone here know the proper length and thread sizes for the longer ones required with the alloy valve cover? As you probably all know, the studs have a coarse thread on the head (bottom) end of the stud and a fine thread on the top (nutted) end. Although I suppose a coarse/coarse combo would not matter for the new studs.

I'd actually just go out to the garage and measure in person, but I sent the car to the upholstery shop last night where it will be for a week and then it goes to the paint shop for some minor touch up work before the "big show" here on July 18th. so, I'm hoping to score the new studs while the car is away.

You shouldn't need to change the studs. I have the moss one on my TR4, and the Fasteners, or nuts, or whatever they are called drop down in the hole on the valve cover, and reach the studs. It confused me at first as well. So the studs don't need to clear the top of the cover.

hmmm, I'll have to check but from what I recall when I tried to mount it last night the tops of the studs weren't even clearing the surface of the hole in the valve cover. ..and yes, mine has the recessed holes as well.

Here are the nuts that came with my valve cover, and you can sort of see where the stud comes. Though I wouldn't swear that they are stock height studs. They are about even with the inside of the cover.

Yeah, you need the special "nuts" that are in Darrells picture. They should have come with the valve cover.
